ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Michigan surf music compilation with contributions by The Prodigals, The Silencers, The Volcanos, Professor Schmiddy, The Campus Kings, Mondo Mod, and The Lustre Kings.

Ann Arbor's The Prodigals bring you four brand new tracks of solid surf typified by absolutely burning guitar work and eclectic arrangements à la Australia's famed Atlantics. Only their live show can match it. Way boss.

Young upstarts The Silencers clock in with their hot 45 release which has been reissued here for your listening pleasure. The "Satan on acid" intro is a nice touch from this metro area wünderkind.

Detroit's The Volcanos represent the old guard of the Michigan surf set. Here they dish out two swingin' samples of the sound that has enabled them to rise above fad and fashion, keeping instrumental music alive and well in the Motor City.

Professor Schmiddy has come to us in a number of guises (a.k.a. Kevin Strange, The Lonely Surfer, etc.) but, as always, he delivers the big surfin' sounds pure and simple. "Hotfoot" makes its debut here while "Outbound" comes to you courtesy of his HHR 45, no longer in print but preserved on SPILLWAY in its full glory.

Hot, new rabble rousers the Campus Kings make their mark with these three brand spankin' new instrumental gems. Their style runs the gamut from pounding "Las Vegas Grind" to shades of the wild west. Keep your ears peeled for that wailin' sax!

The instro-a-go-go sounds of Mondo Mod have been wowing locals for over a year now. Here they turn in two Farfisa-driven winners plus a rousing version of the Marketts' "Penguin" - a tip of the hat to the inspired genius that inspires their own.

Last on the list but first in the hearts of many are the late-lamented Lustre Kings. Sheer surfin' fire here on their first (and last) HHR 45 (a split single with Professor Schmiddy and the Elements). Testament to their brief but memorable career... and quite likely the only time you'll ever hear a reverb tank fighting for its life.

This is easily the best compilation of new artists in a long while.
This is easily the best compilation of new artists in a long while. Michigan bands all, there are almost no weak spots here, and some tracks are just plain killer. An absolute must have, no ifs, ands or buts! Magnificent. Did I say I like it? More like love it!!!
