Album Notes

The internationally recognized soprano Susan Korhonen has garnered high praise for her performances as a versatile soloist in opera, oratorio, recital and musical theatre throughout the United States, Europe and Israel. Critics in Germany have described her voice as “wonderfully radiant with electrifying high notes.” Her leading roles in opera have included Donna Elivra in “Don Giovanni,” Mimi in “La Boheme.” Violetta in “La Traviata,” and the Marschallin in “Der Rosenkavalier.”

She began her performing career at the age of 10 and by the age of 18 was a veteran of numerous musical theatre productions, international tours and television performances. Her most recent role in this genre was as Nene in an Austrian touring production of “Sisi.”

Miss Korhonen has specialized in music from the 20th century (and onward). She was mentored by the renowned composer Dr. Lena J. McLin whose protégés are performing at present on the stages of the Metropolitan Opera, Broadway and Concert Halls as well as in Gospel and as Worship Leaders for leading ministries all over the world. They are represented in every musical genre and include R&B’s “R.Kelly.” Dr. McLin chose Susan to premiere her art songs and spirituals Chicago’s Orchestra Hall with the composer accompanying her at the piano.

Internationally she was the soprano soloist at the 50th Anniversary Memorial of the Buchenwald prison camp where she sang the Hebrew text of the Book of Psalms, composed by Shimon Knoll, with the Jenaer Philharmonic Orchestra in Weimar, and later toured with members of both the Deutsche Oper Orchestra and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra (Europa Ensemble Chamber Orchestra) throughout Israel as soprano soloist for “Thou Shall Not Kill, “ which was recorded on CD by Poole Productions.

A highly sought after soloist of sacred works, she has performed as the soprano soloist in the Brahms Requiem, conducted by Grammy award winning conductor, Alexander Frey in Berlin, Germany in Handel’s Messiah, and in Dvorak’s Messe in D Dur with internationally acclaimed organist and conductor Martin Haselbock, Director of the Wiener Akademie in Vienna.

In June 2006, Miss Korhonen was heard in Vienna’s celebration Mozart’s birthday as the soprano soloist in the “Missa Solemnis” and has been engaged to repeat this performance in 2008.
