ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Susannah Blinkoff is a multi-talented singer-songwriter whose catchy, groove-driven alternative/adult contemporary pop-rock songs have been featured on MTV’s hit show “My Super Sweet Sixteen”, in the feature film “My Super Ex-Girlfriend”, as well as heard on over 200 college radio stations across the country. Her warm, intimate, clear-as-a-bell voice turns sexy and sultry in a heartbeat -- inspiring comparisons to Diana Ross, Sheryl Crow and Eva Cassidy -- while her accomplished background as an actress gives her a chameleon-like performance style that's at home in a variety of musical genres. Her latest album LET’S PRETEND is a diverse collection of soulful, “hooky”, pop-rock songs that are original and radio-friendly at the same time.

Born and raised in New York City, Susannah began singing professionally in clubs and off-Broadway when she was twelve. As an actress, she has appeared in numerous TV movies, sitcoms and plays on both coasts. She made her Broadway debut in THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE GOES PUBLIC and is featured on the show’s cast album recording. She is also a published playwright and screenwriter who co-wrote the film BELLYFRUIT which premiered at the L.A. Independent Film Festival and ran on Showtime. For that film, she wrote and produced the opening title song with hit music producer Stephen Bray (Madonna, “The Color Purple”).

Her first album “Happy Today” was released under the band name CAMP SUSANNAH and was a collaboration with musicians David Sutton (Lucinda Williams, Liz Phair, Tracy Chapman), John Ballinger (Rufus Wainwright), Ray McNamara (E of the Eels) and Scott Breadman (Macy Gray). Susannah has performed her music in Galway, Ireland; New York City, and in Los Angeles at The Knitting Factory, Tangier, Genghis Cohen, The Mint, and Hotel Cafe.

As the daughter of Broadway composer-lyricist Carol Hall, Susannah grew up in recording studios and songwriting was literally a calling she could not ignore. While performing and recording are her true passions, she is also busy developing hybrid musical projects that bring all of her talents together. Her award-winning screenplay UNDERCOVER CREW -- currently being developed as both a film and a TV series -- features two original songs written by Susannah for the character of a teen pop star. Another project is an original movie-with-music (a la "Once") about singers that will feature her songs as well as those of some other prominent L.A. songwriters.

let's pretend
LET'S PRETEND is full of catchy tunes and lyrics with some great hooks, like in I'm So Amazed. Susannah Blinkoff has a cool, clear touch that brings a poignancy to her darker themed songs like her Live On and Randy Newman's Texas Girl at the Funeral of Her Father. I was delighted and moved and grateful to come across LET'S PRETEND.

My New Favorite Singer/Songwriter!
After listening to “Let’s Pretend,” Susannah Blinkoff has become one of my favorite contemporary singer/songwriters. Her melodies are contagious and her lyrics are personal and heartfelt. The wide range of experiences and emotions she shares on this album can be heard through her versatile vocals. She is not afraid to sound strong and determined (like “My Time Now” or “Let’s Pretend”) nor is she afraid to sound vulnerable and lonely (“Texas Girl At The Funeral Of her Father”). Her willingness to share her emotions with us via song makes “Let’s Pretend” a touching album that I can definitely relate to.

Let's Pretend - again and again!
This album is terrific; every song seems to me to be a potential mega-hit. Some of the work reminds me of Karla Bonoff in the way it reveals such personal feeling in clever and unforgettable ways. I've been singing these songs for days now and have no desire to listen to anything else! It's well produced, the musicianship is top notch. Her voice is pure and suited to her material. There are really no down sides or songs you have to "endure" to get to another good one. I HIGHLY Recommend Let's Pretend.

Let's Pretend - An Inspired Effort
You’ll adore this sweet-voiced chameleon as she takes you on a fascinating musical ride. An extremely versatile writer and performer, Susannah brings a poignancy to her music one minute, and sexiness and playfulness the next. For me, there was a distinct 70’s/early 80’s vibe, with Susannah channeling some of my fave gal rockers like Chrissy Hynde, Christine McVie, Suzanne Vega and Lisa Loeb. Be sure to check out I Got Lucky, Good to Be Here, her cover of Vienna and Texas Girl at the Funeral of her Father. Definite highlights. This is one CD to discover and play over and over again as it unfolds for you differently with each play.

Let's Pretend - AMAZING!
Susannah Blinkoff is a major talent! LET'S PRETEND is a great album...really good tunes that I keep humming and her lyrics feel so personal. It gives her work a timelessness and depth that you don't always find in contemporary writing.
Then there's her singing! I love her sound. It's unique and spot on every time...powerful, vulnerable, sexy...whatever the feel she wants to convey. Some of my favorites are BE ALL RIGHT, IT'S GOOD TO BE HERE and SO AMAZED. And I love her rendition of VIENNA!
I will enjoy this album for a long time to come and I look forward to hearing more of Susannah Blinkoff.
