Album Notes
Comforting Hymns of the Christian Faith is the second album that I have recorded of traditional hymns.
Some of the hymns featured on this album are centuries old and were created under the most trying circumstances.
The hymn "Now Thank We All Our God" was written around the year 1636 by a Lutheran minister named Martin Rinkart as a tribute to God at the end of the 30 Years War; a prolonged time of suffering when many people died of famine and plague. He and other pastors often had to conduct as many as 50 funerals a day. He wrote this beautiful hymn of Gratitude for a grand celebration service at the end of that terrible war. It is a testimony of Rinkart's strong faith, courage and trust in God.

All of the hymns on this album have similar stories behind their creation.
They were written by people who loved God deeply and who trusted in Him no matter what they had to suffer.
The hymn "Just As I Am" was written in 1835 by poet Charlotte Elliott. While she was at a dinner party a man asked if she were a Christian.
Although at the time, she thought him rude she couldn't get the question out of her mind. Later, she found the man who had asked her if she knew Christ. When she found him, he then led her to the Lord. She later wrote the song inspired by her new faith and the man who told her that she could come to Christ, "just as she was..."

The hymn "Nearer My God To Thee" was written by Sarah Flower Adams (1805-1848), a British actress, poet, and hymn writer. Her pastor needed a hymn to illustrate his sermon text which was Genesis 28:11-19, the story of Jacob's Dream.
Sarah presented him with "Nearer My God to Thee." The beautiful hymn has touched many lives. It was even played on board the ill-fated Titanic as it was sinking in the dark icy ocean, according to one survivor of the terrible tragedy.
Those are just some of the stories surrounding the beautiful hymns featured on this album.
These songs have the power to draw the soul close to God and bring comfort and encouragement like nothing else I can think of apart from the Bible.
They are truly timeless and anointed by God. There is a reason that miracles surround so many of them and that you hear stories of so many people singing them as they pass from this life into eternity.
Once you hear them, they seem to be etched on your soul forever. Their words and music must have been given to their authors and composers by the Lord Himself for they have been sung by countless people over hundreds of years.

As on all of my other prayer song albums and previous hymn album "Beloved Hymns," I use no other musical instrumentation to accompany my voice except for its own echo. This produces a calming, soothing quality that makes the music perfect to listen to for quiet meditation.
I feel so honored to have been able to record this beautiful album of hymns and pray that the Lord will use it to bless you as much as it has already blessed me.
