Great Storyteller
Imagine a singer-songwriter beginning to etch her name as a musical contender in 1971 having familial obligations which took her away from the limelight for a while. Now imagine over thirty years later that voice retuning to the music scene with a lifetime worth of stories to tell.

(Re)enter Suzanne Doyle.

The Kitchener, Ontario native did just that. Suzanne Doyle left the city with her parents, met her husband, and settled into daily life to raise her family in peace. While this would have been the end of the road for most musicians, Suzanne picked up right where she left of releasing "Room With a View" in 2009.

I have had the wonderful opportunity to have a listen to Suzanne's follow-up album, "Unwalled." "Unwalled" features a lot of big name players to back Suzanne and help her in releasing a stimulating album.

Musicians are story-tellers at heart and as Suzanne says herself in "Over the Edge":"I'm no longer 22, but any age will do" as she draws on her life experiences and her family to weave her life openly into her songs. When I listen to the album I heard many things, the most prominent being truth. The truth of life.

Suzanne and her session players create toe-tapping tunes which wouldn't lose any effect if they were done as a solo performance. I read the names of the session players she involved in this project (see this website for the list if you're curious) and I wasn't sure what I was going to be in for. However, upon listening to the album I was pleased that it didn't turn into each musician having a solo in each song (a pitfall with big name players I have heard over used in certain situations.) While Suzanne music does give them a little room to "stretch their legs" at no point does it draw focus away from the core of the song she is singing.

At times it can sound downright eerie ("Third Day") to pop-folky (If We Weren't Married, I'd Fall In Love With You)

Stand Out Track -

"Unwalled" - a song about breaking down the barriers we create for ourselves. While autobiographical it remains applicable to all of us.

Honourable mention to her cover of Steve Earle's "I'm Still In Love With You"
