Album Notes
Notes on this music:

Dream Shield Journey is a highly personal work from Suzin Green. Composed over a 6-year period and recorded in 1995, the music unfolds in four movements, called "musical shields." Each shield weaves art song settings of sacred poetry by female mystics with solo piano. Although Suzin stopped performing on piano during the late 90's, choosing to focus on kirtan and kirtan fusion, Dream Shield Journey is still held dear by many fans. This is a musical work that wants the attention of the listener. Some people find they need to listen a few times before it grabs them. But over and over, people have said, once it grabs them, it doesn't let go.

Here are quotes from letters Suzin has received over the years:

" was a wonderful thing to dwell for a while in your music, which I found extraordinarily beautiful, and moving and true."
J.H., Mill Valley, CA

"I feel I have written this letter to you over and over again, each time I listen to your Dream Shield Journey.... You have touched on parts of all of us in this journey. I thank you..."
B.D., Bristol, RI

"The music is quite moving and beautiful and reminds me of the performances I've been lucky to attend. I'm very happy to have the freedom to listen to it when I wish. I've listened to the CD several (to twenty!) times a day."
J.C., Norwalk, CT

"Dream Shield Journey has had wonderful, even miraculous effect on myself and my family and aided a great deal in my personal healing.... Listening one evening with my mother...seemed to accentuate and heighten our spiritual connection and deepen our feminine relationship to one another...
L.V., Meriden, CT

"The tape is inspired - really beautiful. My husband said 'Where did you get that tape? It's fantastic!'"
A.B. Boston, MA

"I've listened to the music many times in many different moods... For me, it can be calming and peaceful, healing and inspirational. I often find myself singing...when I've just awakened in the morning...
Thank you for singing your song for all of us to hear."
L.F., Watertown, CT

"I wanted to tell you how much I am enjoying your beautiful Dream Shield Journey. I listened in my car on the way to the airport and was mezmerized by your creation, not to mention impressed, moved, joyous. It is totally awe-producing and inspiring."

J.S., Santa Fe, NM

"Bravo! The music is wonderful, deep and inspiring! -- and I'm so happy to be able to just listen to it with the flick of a switch."
N.G., Hastings-on-Hudson, NY

"Your music is amazing. Every time I listen to it I get all teary-eyed."
R.C., New Milford, CT

"With the first notes my heart leaped open to embrace this music. There is so much love, so much heart. My heart is very full upon hearing this music."
J.C., Eureka, CA

Suzin Green is best known for her passionate approach to Indian devotional music. What many don't know is that she trained as a classical pianist. And later went on to perform with several experimental music/dance/ theater companies. During that period she became fascinated with the healing power of the arts, a fascination that led to her study and practice of yogic mantra and meditation. Today, nearly 35 years later, that fascination forms the thread connecting all of her work.

Suzin now teaches Devi Yoga, a system of practice built from the Hindu Goddess tradition, Tantra, Bhakti Yoga, Archetypal Psychology, and the Way of Art. Along with "Dream Shield Journey," she has recorded two kirtan albums, "Hearts on Fire" and "Devi Demo" and is a featured artist on the Relaxation Company releases, "Women’s Yoga Chants" and "Meditations for Music and Sound Healing." She's also written on spirituality and the goddess for Ascent, Meditation Pathways, Yoga Chicago, and Sagewoman magazines.

She holds an MA in Art & Consciousness Studies and is a registered expressive arts therapist. [REAT] Suzin has led workshops and performed throughout the USA, Canada, and Mexico. She also maintains a private practice in NYC, offering high-performance coaching and transformational inner work.

Blissful companion on life's journey
I find myself returning to Dream Shield Journey again and again, and although it is intensely personal to the artist, I love the way it seems to travel and grow with me over the years and provide keys to deeper experience. It is truly a beautifully coherent work, and vision, from the arresting Magnificat, to the settings of Mirabai's ecstatic poetry, to the recurrence of the shimmering Shiva Arati, sung so reverently, and yet able to burst forth finally into a new transformed Arati to Devi in her many forms. This music will inspire your dreams and companion your own soul journeys.
