Album Notes
Sylvia Herold presents a varied program of countrified swing and traditional folk songs to paint an earthy, nostalgic portrait of a once-wild West. The songs depict the delicate points where nature and human nature entwine.

An all-star acoustic cast joins Herold on the album: Rounder Records recording artist Scott Nygaard on guitar, dobro master Orville Johnson, bassist Cary Black, guitar wizard Tony Marcus, piano accordionist Karen Tweed, versatile reedman Jim Rothermel, and vocalists Connie Doolan and Patrice Haan.

San Francisco-area music lovers will associate Herold with her work in the stylish swing vocal trio Cats & Jammers or with Wake the Dead, the self-described “Celtic All-Star Grateful Dead Jam Band.” She is also a performance and recording alum of The Hot Club of San Francisco, which features the vibrant music of the late guitar legend Django Reinhardt.

A voice that changes with the song
The music on this cd is excellent, but it is the singing which makes this cd special. Ms. Herold makes intricate changes to her voice to lend produce a symbiosis between the vocal, instruments and lyrics. Heck, it's just great music!
