Album Notes
Eleven original songs, ranging from gothic ballads to dirges to arias; a mix of haunted melodies and laments. Sylvi's rich, versatile voice floats and soars through the atmospheres of her spare instrumentation.

"...Alli has a haunting, heavenly voice that quickly finds the resonant frequency of your heart and shakes it to pieces." Sam Hurwitt, East Bay Express

Sylvi Alli's music has emerged as a synthesis of her classical piano training as well as years of working as a visual artist. She began experimenting with electronic music, bringing her painter's sensibility to create ambient/industrial sonic landscapes, using her voice as another instrument. Her debut CD "Too Near the Ghosts" marks a transition into more structured melodic song forms.

Since the early 90's Sylvi Alli has been composing and recording music for film, video, theatre and dance.

"A remarkable talent this, with Sylvi's vocals superb in every detail, from the near operatic moments here, to the more introspective gothic sort of tracks.... Although the instrumentals are constructed to really bring out the feel of each song, it's Sylvi's voice which is the real focus here....If you like the sound of a sort of cross between the vocals of Enya & Beth Orton & the instrumentals of the later Nick Cave material, then you'll love this album." Terry Allen, hEARd, Australia

"Sylvi Alli has an eerie operatic voice that reminds one of Lisa Gerrard in swoops and depths. Her music is a dark and personal mixture of operatic arias, folk songs, and dark rock not unlike PJ Harvey at her most mellow. The lyrics are full of esoteric images--names made of numbers, snakes--and themes of madness and visions. It's the sort of album that Nico might have made, if she had more range. Harmonium, upright bass, cello, and her own marvelous keyboard player accompanies her meditive and majestic singing."

Ghostly beautiful
The music is truly ethereal. The title of the CD intrigued me and the music did not disappoint - it rises to a different plane, a place not of this everyday world. Sylvi Alli has a wonderful voice that soars into the beyond.

Carrie Alexander

A mellifulous soundtrack for lingering heart breaks.
Sylvi's soothing yet subtly soaring vocals offer solace to the emotionally bereft and abandoned. Many of the lyrics and overall tone of the music itself suggests a kind of cinematic imagination at work, as if her songs are actually painting their own pictures of faraway lands. Though her voice recalls the sonorous tonal depth of Lisa Gerrard, there is a sweetness here that is all her own.

Alexandro Sanders

Beautiful cd to meditate, relax and let mind flow!
Mystic, mellowing, peacefull and yet full of energy and recharging. Gets to the soul. Sylvi's voice is charming. Music is beautiful.
