Album Notes
New CD from Acey is a Suite Treat

Spoken Word Artist, Taalam Acey's latest CD -- California Suite -- plays like a novella. A canceled flight on election night is the backdrop. Among others, the CD features a thought provoking poem titled New President, which is destined to become the verbal collector's item from this monumental period in our nation's history.

Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) February 17, 2009 -- With California Suite, Taalam Acey once again pushes the envelope of Spoken Word artistry. This CD plays like a novella set to Spoken Word poetry (Could this be the birth of a new genre?). As always, his message has depth and breadth that most poetscan only aspire to achieve. In classic Acey form, he rips, wrangles, and massages words to take readers on a sexual, intellectual, and inspirational journey of love, politics, and social consciousness. The CD is filled with excellent poetry, calling listeners (especially men and fathers) to accountability, but two pieces stick out as the most powerful- New President and Five Women.

Every person that voted for change needs to hear New President. Acey sums up, in his unique, eloquent fashion, the problems, the complexity, and the hope found in our new President. Like the now iconic Hope poster, New President is destined to become the verbal collector's item from this monumental period in our nation's history.

Five Women is a brilliant tribute to the women who shaped the man. Visit Acey's website http://www.taalamacey.com to experience the poem with accompanying photos of these five beautiful women. Touching and inspiring, this visit into the family photo album offers a rare, yet vivid glimpse into Acey's world and formative years. As one fan put it, "The poem touches every man, woman, and child whose mother has called them (and sometimes whooped them) to something higher than their own self concept. Five Women is a Mother's Day poem for 365 days a year. "

As if all that wasn't enough, the end of the CD has three bonus tracks of familiar favorites- She Conjurez, Ugly 2/Self Help and What You Deserve. California Suite will leave you hungry for love, hopeful for change, and mindful that chance encounters are not by chance at all.

Taalam Acey has published a novel, a comprehensive collection of poems, an award winning memoir, and 12 Spoken Word CDs. He has been a full time traveling poet since 1999. Tens of thousands of people own his work and hundreds of thousands have watched him live or via television and the internet. Acey performs regularly in more than 50 cities in the US and abroad. On average, he is on a plane once every 3.5 days. That's 100 flights per year to promote Spoken Word.

California Suite
Absolutely beautiful. I love California Suite and it is edvident that Taalam and his work has matured. I'm not saying his past works was immature but this CD is on another dimension of love and creativity. Keep up the good word. Yaay T!

Unexpected Journey
I bought the CD expecting business as usual - track 1 pause followed by track 2. I knew the tracks would each be as phenomenal as Mr. Acey but from the electronic music to the connection of each piece through the story of a chance meeting in a California hotel California Suite is an unexpected journey.

The highest compliment that I can give is that it made me think….really think

“Who made this world where my wife’s man and her husband are not one and the same”
Wedding Ring – made me envision and wish that could be me…Scrabble anyone?
New President – so honest and transparent
(Iraq) “unintentionally colonized”
Broken Glass
Coltrane’s Equinox, “Million by the thousand spends like a thousand” – yes, “Woman’s heart the only safe place to land”
Shot in the Dark
“…The sense not to promote it”, Today’s rappers (not all) “modern day equivalents to minstrels”

Every man in here
“Every woman passing by wishes she was you”
“Fellows receives fellowship”
People view the world through their lens on life and therefore this pretty picture could be a point of sadness for some because unfortunately loneliness permeates deep. Every man in here for me indicated that a real man desires to be all the things that I know a real woman is looking for. I especially appreciated the olive branch to understand that men have their own issues (anguish) and ways of relating to the world and the last phrase challenge to essentially stop the excuses and step up your game if you haven't arrived yet
Five Women
"Like tons of megapixels she developed me to be sharp"
I’m jealous of the library
Extra surprises of tracks 16 and 17 and track 16 makes me want to be smarter and is now my favorite poem

17 how you gone let her pack up the best part of your life in a Samsonite and just step

My honest assessment is that any work by Talaam Acey is a must for the personal library. I am grateful that I can be entertained and educated and mentally provoked all at once. Thank you.

California Suite
This is Taalam’s best CD to date. The music is well balanced with the words, and it brings you closer to the overall feel of this album. "Five Women" is perfect praise song (Oriki) for the ancestors and "Suite Remembrance" is a beautiful love poem that is written and delivered in true Taalam fashion. This one is a must have.
Well done.

As Suite As It Gets
let me start by saying kudos! Taalam has done it again. the project was more than i expected because it was much broader than the advertising led me to believe it would be. i somehow let the romantic aspect of the theme of the title blind me to how inclusive the work really is. his choice of topics left me feeling warm, encouraged, entertained and understood. mr acey may have very well mastered the balance of building a cohesive collection of art without any of the tracks being redundant or any of the music or dialogue becoming stagnant. speaking of the music, i have always been a fan of his choice of production but was more likely to listen to the a capella tracks, this time, i found that the music tied the a capella tracks together. i'm enjoying your choice of production more and more, but that may just be growth on my part. the music....holds an air of someone who knows and has somehow overcome saddness, but still understands it very well. music has always been very important to me, and there is something about flats and minor chords that touch a place inside of me that sharps and majors don't. Taalam uses them well.
i cannot choose a favorite track, i like them all for different reasons and different emotions, and California Suite allows you to fully experience different emotions from one poem to the next seamlessly and without leaving you in suspense of how you should feel next.
Lastly, I dig the dialogue on the CD. Nothing is sexier than hearing an intelligent man just talk. Personally, this current CD runs a photo finish close second to Self Construct for me.
Thank you Taalam for blessing the art world with another gem!
