ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Talking Under Water is the song-based project of vocalist/pianist/guitarist Dave Chisholm and cellist Elise Hughey. The band originated in Rochester in 2014.

Their self-titled debut, due out in the Spring of 2017, takes listeners on a journey through the American musical landscape, with gospel, blues, folk, soul, and rock influences providing a suitable foil for their heartfelt lyrics. Their music strongly veers in the sad-song/cathartic-song direction, providing an appropriate level of empathy for listeners in need.

Fleshed-out by Rochester, NY drummer Joe Parker (Attic Abasement) and guitarist Alex Patrick (The Absolutes), Talking Under Water's debut album is filled with Dave's emotive voice and inventive harmonic sense, which, combined with perfectly-sculpted catchy melodies, Elise's gorgeous melancholia-infuesed cello, and Grammy-winning producer Stephen Roessner's impeccable production, lead to an emotionally-immersive listening experience.

This is American music put through the icy crucible of Rochester's brutal winters, inspired by Gospel traditions ("Lost," "Nomad," "Hopeful"), the Blues ("Strange"), Folk ("Only the Strong Survive," "Gravity"), old-school Soul ("If My Body Freezes"), and Beatles-inspired Rock-and-Roll ("Days Like Today," "Don't Forget Me," and the album's first single "We Used to Dream").
