Album Notes
Nashville singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist turned recording artist TANYA DENNIS has paid her dues the traditional way as a touring band member with major Country Artists such as FAITH HILL, JANIE FRICKIE, WADE HAYES, SKIP EWING, and WHISPERING BILL ANDERSON.
She has headlined in Europe at several major festivals and along with ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL. Small wonder that so many world -class country artists have utilized her powerfully sultry, blues -tinged, voice as well as her fiddle, mandolin and rhythm guitar playing in their touring entourages.
She has frequented as a background studio singer for the Carter Brothers Band.
TANYA’S core belief that experience, determination and talent are mightier than big bucks and a big label is finally paying off. TANYA is at last in the world spotlight. Audiences delight in the fierce and fiery fiddling that is a hallmark of each of TANYA’S performances.
In addition, she has written and produced records and commercials for fellow artists and prominent corporations such as Mazda, Safeway Foods, and PAX Television Network. Many songwriters have utilized TANYA’S voice and fiddling to promote their songs in the viciously competitive market in Nashville.
Her debut CD, WATERDANCE, received the “1999 European Female Rising Star Award” from www.Onlinecountry.com. In addition to writing or co-writing all but one song, she also co-produced the project. TANYA has also been a featured writer “in-the-round” at the world renowned BLUEBIRD CAFÉ in Nashville.
In February 2000, WWW.JUSTPLAINFOLKS.COM awarded WATERDANCE second place for “Country CD of the Year" and "The Bad Things You Do" for “Blues Song of the Year”. "Suspect Angel" was nominated for "Country Song of the Year.”
Since 2002, TANYA has won hearts and ears all over Sweden, Norway, Lapland and Denmark, during the 2004 Country Music Messe in Berlin where she was also invited to be a guest band member for Norwegian Recording Artist, Arly Karlsen.
In 2003, CD Baby featured TANYA’S song “Slow Burn” from WATERDANCE on their first compilation CD.
In the spring of 2003, TANYA recorded and co-produced her second CD, APARTMENT #9, in preparation for her summer tour of Sweden. The CD has exposed yet another side of TANYA that pleased many critics and fans alike.
Unlike the eclectic country/blues tapestry of WATERDANCE, APARTMENT #9 is pure traditional country. TANYA covers cornerstone country artists including Tammy Wynette, Connie Smith and Vern Gosdin to name a few, and does so with piercing honesty and originality.

And after a 10 year absence, Tanya is at long last back in the studio working on and in an entirely new direction.
Currently in production with her new CD “Shadow and Light” (Chiaroscura), which is influenced largely by her love of Brazilian music, Tango and Jazz, she has finally come full circle back to her unique, eclectic and deeply romantic style of songwriting.
This first of THREE new projects.
There is also a sailing music project in the works which will feature more fiddle and Celtic originals as well as some adaptations of sailing shanties.
Finally there is a Blues project simmering on the back burner.
As Tanya is fond of saying “no one ever accused me of being predictable”.
And that’s OK, there is so much music to explore I need several lifetimes to do all I want.
She has also been fortunate to collaborate on a tune or two with legendary mega hit writer Kostas Lazarides.

Tremendous, WOW
I knew Tanya Dennis 30 years ago in East Tennessee when she bought her first fiddle. I was there watching her learn to play and observed her natural talent and her determination; and I knew then Tanya had what it takes to make great music. Her voice is incredably strong and heartfelt. I am not a music critic but I know what I like and I like what I hear on Waterdance. I hope Tanya has another CD in the works.
