Album Notes
I thank Allah for the gift of words and sound....This Album is dedicated to Naomi Jelks, my parents, daughter and all my ancestors who went before...Thank you for your support!

A rare soul filled with healing power and energy in her powerful poetry, soulful singing, thought provoking lyrics and unforgettable stage presence.
Her true mission is to heal the universe with her various art forms: Singer, Poet, Fashion Designer, Radio Host /Producer, Writer, Musician, Activist, Actor and Teacher.

She draws from her experience growing up in Chicago, her faith, her Native American and African ancestors and world travels. Growing up taking dance and private piano lessons, she was always surrounded by creativity and music. She is an alumnus of Columbia College Chicago where she studied Theater and Fashion Design. Being innovative fusing Hip-Hop, Jazz, Soul, Blues and Spiritual influences gives her that universal appeal.

Tasleem has traveled and performed at venues like the Audobon Ballroom in New York City for a special tribute to Malcolm X, legendary Velvet Lounge in Chicago, Apache in Atlanta, many universities, African Festival (Chgo), Islamic World Festival(Philly), 'Taking It To the Streets' festival (Chgo) and many major festivals, venues and the list goes on. El-Hakim is in demand as a lecturer and motivational speaker on various topics and about her experiences in life.

Tasleem has featured and/or shared the stage with legendary artists such as the The Last Poets, KRS-1, Lupe Fiasco, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Jurassic 5, Kindred, Rock Steady Crew, and many more...

Before performing poetry she appeared in a film Documentary on domestic violence that debuted at New York's Cultural Museum, Movie: Love Jones, Film about Oscar Brown Jr, a cameo in New Muslim Cool and in two upcoming films to be released in 2011 on Hip Hop and Love of the Arts.

She gives of her time with youth conducting workshops on self-esteem, Hip Hop and Spoken Word, Power of the Active Artist, directing and writing plays, choreographing dance (DePaul University, Kuumba Lynx, Little Black Pearl, Ceasefire, After School Matters).

Being a Radio Host and Producer for the last six years has given her the opportunity to meet and interview 100's of artist, activist, historians and scholars from across the world. Interviewing First Lady Michele Obama, Imam Warith Deen Mohammed, Public Enemy, Black Sheep, KRS-1, Dead Prez and so many more...

Her DVD "My Soul Speaks" was released in 2005 and is a classic among the youth and art community. Also her Debut CD entitled "Tasleem" was released in 2008 which features Abiodun of The Last Poets, Composer Reginald Robinson: it fuses Hip-Hop, Soul and Jazz with powerful lyrical flow!
