Album Notes
The word Tathata is Sanskrit for "as it is," or "suchness," which expands into timeless and universal truth as it is always in a changing world.

Tathata is a dynamic sextet comprised of some of Albuquerque's finest artists and performers. This rhythm-driven group has been steadily sculpting its sound and drawing enthusiastic crowds to live shows for many years. Our sound encompasses the influences of Celtica, Rock, Funk and Folk music, along with the fantastically danceable
Middle Eastern and Flamenco places from which we originally hailed. With an original sound accessible to many and a draw from half a dozen various local scenes--festival, foot stomp and frolicking feast--Tathata is the sound of splendid suchness.

Ecstatic cross-planetary, devotional and secular percussion-driven dance music, lifting up soaring melodies with deep rhythms in a truly original blend, sprinkled with Celtica, kirtan, drum jams, earth-devotional chants, uplifting ballads, and a few tasty covers.

Hand drums from Africa, the Middle East and the Carribean, flutes from the far corners of the earth, guitar, bass, and rich vocals rise up singing songs of evolving planetary consciousness with reverence for the earth and each other.

Vesica features:

Io: vocals, percussion
Matti Greenman: guitar, vocals, hand drums
Kimi Foree: flutes, vocals
Cody Jones: hand drums, percussion
Steve Richards: bass, hand drums
James Shore: hand drums, percussion

Vesica includes vocal & percussion performances by James Shore, who has been recently replaced in the band by mandolin, harp and bass-player Dave Hoover.

Bob S. - The Metaphysical Music Man

The heartbeat of the universe direct from Albuquerque!
To call Tathata's sound “eclectic” would be seriously unperceptive. That word suggests a patchwork, and, while Tathata does derive its sound from myriad sources, each number they send our way is a seamless whole, unique and distinct unto itself. Rhythm is the key to the sound, always. Whether it’s Middle Eastern, Indian, Celtic, or AfroCuban, each Tathata number is driven by drumming with the entire ensemble joining in often on extended percussion rides.

The tracks on this CD were recorded in settings as diverse as the music itself. Some are from the studio, others live from various locales. It’s a credit to the engineer that the sound mix is uniform from beginning to end. Vesica brings a solid hour of Tathata music including my faves, “Catharsis,” “Barge of Heaven,” and “The Antlered God.” I was mildly disappointed to not find “Sacred Fire” in this set, but that only means I will be looking forward to the next recording of Tathata’s trancy, groovy, oh-so-rhythmic spiritual sound with even greater anticipation.
