Album Notes
"Underground Love" is the debut album of North Carolina based band, Tea Cup Gin, released in August 2014.

The members of Tea Cup Gin share a passion for creating original material that draws from a variety of early 20th Century musical genres, including vintage jazz standards, torch songs, ragtime, delta slide blues, tin pan alley classics, chanson, cabaret, and show tunes, coupled with our own brand of edgy lyrics. Christy Benson delivers soulful vocals as lovely as a nightingale’s song, or with the grit of a delta blues artist. A strong rhythm section with Nigel Clarke on upright bass and Tim McElroy on percussion compliments the unique interplay between guitarists Mike Reid and John Klonowski, creating an uncommonly cool approach to the great American jazz/blues tradition.

Why the name "Tea Cup Gin"? During prohibition, speakeasies often served bootleg gin from ordinary tea cups to hide what was inside. Although our original songs may look innocent enough on the outside, they contain a deliciously intoxicating mixture of musical influences. "Tea Cup Gin" evokes vintage jazz, and is catchier than saying "you can't judge a book by its cover."

Tea Cup Gin Uniquely Amazing!
I've seen this band perform many times live, and have been SO looking forward to the arrival of their debut album "Underground Love".... it is everything I imagined and MORE! Great variety of songs blending a range of vintage jazz and blues styles, while adeptly incorporating some latin influences. A wonderful range of styles and techniques on guitars to complement their intense original lyrics, accompanying authentic vocals that are simultaneously soulful and jazzy. True to the vintage eras of jazz, and yet uniquely original. Very cool stuff indeed!
