ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
American violinist and mandolinist Ted Falcon teams up with the Brazilian virtuoso guitarist, Félix Junior in this new recording of original music. Retratos Abstratos features many Brazilian rhythms including Baião, Xote, Choro and Frevo, as well as tributes to Paco de Lucia and the television show Breaking Bad. It was recorded in Brazil in April of 2014 at the Casa do Som studios.

Ted Falcon is an American violinist, mandolinist and composer. Born in New York, Ted grew up in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He first started playing the piano at age five then switched to the violin when he was six. The son of a professional guitarist, Ted grew up listening to jazz and the Brazilian music of Villa-Lobos, Tom Jobim and Luiz Bonfá. He studied jazz at the University of Pittsburgh and later at Indiana University. Over the years, he has lived and worked as a professional musician in New York City, Los Angeles and São Paulo. For the past 5 years, he has lived in Brasília, the capital of Brazil.

Ted has written several books about Brazilian choro music for the Escola de Choro Raphael Rabello, (Clube do Choro) the nation’s most respected choro school. He performs regularly throughout Brazil with various music projects including Jambrosia, Trio Oblivion, Gypsy Jazz Club, Kervansarai, and the duo Ted and Pablo, with harmonica player Pablo Fagundes. He has performed with Hermeto Pascoal, Dominguinhos, Armandinho Macêdo, Hamilton de Holanda and many other incredible Brazilian musicians. In the U.S., he has performed along side of David Grisman and Mike Marshall and has recorded with Suzanne Vega and Ben E. King. Ted is one of the few innovators on the violin, an instrument rarely used in Brazilian popular music.
