ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This is the acoustic record I have been wanting to make for years. 3 songs were recorded live on radio shows around the US. 3 were from a live solo show in Helsinki, Finland (and two of these were solo mandolin and vocals). The other six were recorded at my home studio in L.A.

The album is mostly soulful solo performances, raw and bare bones, but on some of the studio tracks I overdubbed some dobro, bass and harmony vocals to fill out the sound. Many of these songs are in the style of Guy Clark, Bob Dylan, Lucinda Williams and some of my other favorite songwriters.

I co-wrote some of the songs with musician friends in the L.A. country-rock scene (Kirsten Proffit of Calico, David Serby, Bobby Joyner, Nicole Gordon), some were co-writes with friends in the Austin scene (Tony Scalzo of Fastball, Gordy Quist of the Band of Heathens), some were co-written in and around Nashville (Chris Tompkins, Wayne Buckner), and the rest I wrote on my own either at home or while on tour. One of the songs recorded live in Finland is a solo mandolin version of the song Steady At The Wheel which I wrote when I was playing with Shooter Jennings. That song was actually a #1 song on TX radio for 6 weeks.

All of my records have tended to be full band recordings with a few acoustic or mellower tracks here and there. This is finally the solo acoustic record I have been wanting to make for years and which most accurately represents my live show when I tour solo through Europe and the US with just my suitcase and my guitar.
