Album Notes
Telling Stories is a five piece original pop/funk band who have been together and playing in Austin for just over one year. In that short time, they've managed to play dozens of shows at local clubs including Ruta Maya's, The Saxon Pub, Le Privelege, Momo's, Mozart's on Lake Austin, Grafitti's and Texas Mist, just to name a few. In the process, they've captured a small but loyal following and have sold more than 600 copies of their self-produced debut CD, "Greyhound."

Telling Stories is formed around the songwriting duo of Julie Nolen and Terry Dossey. Julie and Terry still play out frequently as an acoustic duo, often joined by the latest addition to the band, Crystalyn Carney. Don Burns on bass, Daniel Jones on drums, and David Webb on keys, known for his work with Jimmy LaFave, Eliza Gilkyson and others, fill out the full version of the band for larger venues.

Telling Stories is also known for the impressive company they keep. Carlos, Rollo, and Fernie, Austin's own Grooveline Horns, occasionally grace the stage at larger TS shows, as does the Tosca String Quartet, both groups being on the TS debut album.

Telling Stories "mission statement" is to marry an infectious funk groove on the bottom with catchy pop melodies and harmonies on top. Unlike most funk projects, lyrics are important and every song "tells a story." It's an ambitious undertaking.

Current show dates, additional photos and biographical materials, song lyrics and downloads, and even the stories behind each song can be found on the band's web site, Booking can be handled through the web site, or by contacting 13th House Records / Audible Attitude Publishing.

Where have these guys been hiding?
A well recorded and well executed collection of well-written songs, stylistically ranging from solid funk to alt-country to good old rock and roll, all which happen to be my favorite genres. The lyrics are thoughtful with nicely turned phrases. Not a bad song in the bunch, and when it was over I was left wanting more. I hope Telling Stories puts out another CD soon, and they find the success they deserve.

Good music played and recorded well.
Every track is good and even though a variety of musical styles are represented, it is still cohesive. I find something new I like about it every time I play it. Listen to the cuts and pick up a copy to hear the won't be disappointed.

This is what music is supposed to sound like
I love discovering new music and new performers. When I first heard these tunes I fell in love. i continue to love them over and over again. Julie has a great voice. The songs have meaning that I can relate to.
I just wished I lived in Austin so I could see them perform live. Listen to the samples and fall in love yourself :)

love this album,meaningful lyrics,great harmony,tight music
Funky, jazzy, and bluesy with catchy tunes. Meaningful lyrics sung with passion. Harmony sounds great. Musical bridges are tight. Instrumentally I love the sound and the vocals and music complement each another. In my opinion there are several songs on this album that should get great air play.

A hidden gem - Loved it! A real surprise!
With a trillion CD's listed here, and not enough time to sample even one percent of them, you have to wonder where the really *great* CD's are hiding. Well, here's one of them. It's brand new. It's got original music, original sound, and an original feel. Since everyone loves stories, this CD is rightly named. I was surprised by it and love it. Check out the samples...See what I mean? This group is good!

Great CD!
Any time I can get a new CD and get my wife to listen to it, it is a good CD! Our music tastes can cross but usually are somewhat different. Who cares? Well, i put this CD in and my wife was curious" who is this?", "Telling Stories","where did you hear of them","Open Jam music forum", "Really/ I like it!"

The music is infectious and isn't meant for coaster material. Great guitars, great vocals, and well put together Get a copy!

Now if the liner notes only included some roadie stories.... :)
