Equilibrium

by Tempest Dance Band

Energetic and eclectic acoustic music with progressive edge. Soulful and unpredictable, the CD - Tempest's first -traverses a wide swath of territory, from Tom Waits ballads to R&B-inflected Celtic sets to horn-driven World Music grooves. A must have!

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Hailing from Western and Central New York, Tempest is the fusion of several talented musicians and a wide range of musical styles. As a touring band on the dance and coffeehouse circuit, Tempest has cultivated a following through its high-energy and creative performances. The ensemble features Ithaca-based fiddler Tim Ball (Confluence, Escape), a highly-sought after musician throughout New York and beyond. Tim is well-steeped in the Irish fiddle tradition, but is equally at home with New England, French Canadian, Old Time, classical, and other styles. On guitars and vocals, Chuck Abell (Blue Dance) has been at the heart of Rochester's dance and coffeehouse scene for over two decades. Chuck's unique style explores many alternative tunings and genres of music, with heavy emphasis on jazz and World Music-inspired rhythms. Driving the band on drums and percussion is Eastman School of Music graduate Eric Metzgar whose thorough knowledge of jazz balances well with a sensitive and nuanced interpretation of traditional music styles. Supporting the core trio on the CD are regular collaborators Harry Aceto on bass (Wild Asparagus, Clayfoot Strutters) and Eastman graduates Erik Stabnau (sax) and Brendan Lanighan (trombone). The CD itself was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Grammy Award winning engineer Will Russell of Electric Wilburland Studio in Newfield NY. Unpredictable, genre-defying, and full of Rust Belt soul, this CD will stir your emotions and inspire your dancing feet!
