Album Notes
Boise musicians, Oliver Thompson (violins) and Martin Johncox (percussion) have joined with Jamie Vink (bass) to form Terra Sonus, a musical performance ensemble focused on playing all original world fusion music.

Terra Sonus, meaning "land of sound” in Latin, is a fitting name for the group which blends styles and traditions ranging from East India, Brazil, the Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Cuba, China, Africa, and American jazz and rock music.

The individual members of Terra Sonus have done a lot to establish Boise as a place for world music, and are now taking things to the next level. With some very exotic instrumentation, the group is flexible enough to play a variety of world styles appropriate for settings both intimate and grand.

Jamie Vink, (House of Hoi Polloi) started playing guitar at age thirteen. In high school his sights turned to bass in the school jazz band. Jamie has been very active in the music scene locally and opening for many nationally known musicians. He also has logged many hours in the studio on bass for a variety of local artists. Music is Jamie’s passion and he is always adding a new instrument like the sitar to his sonic palette.

Martin Johncox (Mondo Raga Samba, The Instinctuals) has been playing drums and percussion since 1983, performing and recording original music exclusively.
Martin has studied under master drummers C.K. Ladzekpo, Gordy Ryan and Fred Simpson. Martin’s playing features styles and instruments from all over the world. Martin also teaches drumming workshops at local schools.

Oliver Thompson (Mondo Raga Samba, Ollie & the Contraband) started playing classical violin and progressed to bluegrass, blues and rock and finally jazz when he earned a B.A. in Music from San Jose State University. While studying East Indian music in the San Francisco Bay area, he started to develop his interests in world music styles and brings this exotic sound to Terra Sonus.
