Album Notes
Terry Breen: Musician, Songwriter, Playwright, Writer, Professor

Back in the waning days of the 20th Century, armed with a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University, Terry Breen set out to make a living as a writer and journalist in Chicago. And that he did, with a variety of newspapers and magazines. But Terry also set out on a music and entertainment career.
Inspired by songwriters at Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music, he began developing a niche writing primarily catchy humorous songs. He’s written several hundred songs and performed them in group and solo settings, appearing at a wide range of concert venues, corporate meetings, private parties, festivals, and charity events. He's currently appearing with the popular good-time music group, "The In Betweens."
Terry has five song-collection albums on the market: "Every Moment Is Our Best Moment," "Romance Is Such A Funny Thing," "Something About Love," "A Near-Life Experience," and "The Millennium Bugs Me." Several of his songs have hit the radio and TV airwaves. A comic song about the Y2K computer transition, "The Millennium Bug," won an award from National Public Radio. Also receiving wide airplay are the singles, “Blame It On El Nino,” “In My Heart It’s Always Summer,” and “Get Twisting.”
Audiences enjoy singing along with such comic songs as “The Flatlands Of Northern Indiana,” an ironic bluegrass ode to the Great Plains; “Going Nowhere On Vacation,” a tribute to doing nothing; and a ditty for homemakers called “Housework Will Kill You.”
A highlight of Terry’s songwriting is a musical featuring his original love songs called "Romance Is Such A Funny Thing."
Terry is also a composer, primarily of melodic piano instrumentals. He performs these soothing, uplifting pieces, featured on the album "Piano Prayers," at concerts throughout the U.S.
“I’ve had wonderful response to these soulful piano pieces,” he says. “They seem to have an appeal to people of all ages and backgrounds—which, of course, is quite exciting to me. I began composing these tunes more than 20 years ago, and they’ve become a major creative activity for me.”
Beyond music, Terry has been active in the world of comedy and theater. He wrote and appeared in a cable TV comedy special, "Pre-Witness News," and was a member of the Chicago comedy troupe "Three Comics, No Waiting." He wrote the script and music score for "The Extraordinary Mr. Ordinary," a play produced in Chicago at the Royal George Theater and the Raven Theater. Terry also composed the music for a video, "A Cup Of Joe," for the Transient Theater production of Kafka’s "The Metamorphosis" in Chicago, and the Chicago theater project, "Stories In Motion."
Terry’s work as a singer-songwriter, composer, and performer jibes with work in the business world as a communication consultant and as a business writing instructor at Northwestern University.
Meanwhile, Terry is still quite active as a journalist, specializing in articles about music, technology, and travel. Highlights include profiles of music industry notables, including jazz musician Paul Winter and composer Augusta Reed Thomas. Terry’s a fiction writer, too. He has two novels on the market, "Words On Vacation," and "In Tune".
