Album Notes
Big-city blues and R&B originals, soulful vocals, a mixture of Texas shuffles, hard funk grooves and Latin rhythms complimented by smooth and jazzy horn arrangements. Johnny (Guitar) Watson meets Steely Dan. You will enjoy this soul-healing experience.

For those of you to whom categories are important, and for those of you to whom variety of style and influence is a blessing, Armando Compean and Texas Brown have a tune to play and a song to sing. As a matter of fact, the Texas-born, Houston-raised bass player/singer has a long list of songs to play and sing -- songs ranging from driving Texas shuffle blues to tunes flavored with jazzy horn arrangements and Latin rhythm. Armando, who has a clear understanding of blues and jazz roots, is able and willing to blend the two with natural conviction.

Raised in a musical family as the youngest of ten, he was exposed to classical music, jazz and romantic Latin Boleros. His father was a violinist/bassist and set the musical tone and standard for the entire family. In addition to the musical influence at home, Armando gravitated naturally towards the local blues and jazz talent in the City of Houston, playing in some of the same clubs and backing such artists as Bobby "Blue" Bland, Albert Collins, Johnny Copeland, Little Junior Parker, Archie Bell and the Drells, to name a few. It helped mold the sound that is Texas Brown. "One month I'd be playing in a top-40 band with Edgar Winter five nights a week, another month I'd be playing the blues in an after-hours club with Johnny Winter and at other times I would play jazz with Ornette Cobb, Jimmy Ford or one of the many local jazz artists." Having lived in Los Angeles for the past 30 years and being involved in studio work, road gigs, producing and just plain ol' live performing has made him that much more solid. "One of my favorite things about living in L.A. is that you have the opportunity to play and surround yourself with the highest calibre of musicians. It certainly has enriched my life." We think you will enjoy this music and its soul-healing sensation.

Texas Brown welcomes you to the Soul Zone.

As solid as it gets
This Music is timeless. I have listened to it for hours and hours and I never get tired of listening. It is truely inspirational. I've played it for my teenages and they can't help moving and singing along. It is proof that good music is for everyone. I love this Artist and his dedication to his Art.

Just loved everything about this CD, great artist, terrific songs, the band is Wonderful, the background singers are dynamite. A must for everyone's collection. The artwork on the cover is Fabulous,I would love to have the original on my wall. I sent this CD to friends and family all over the country. When's the next one coming out.

At last -- a CD worth buying
There's so little new music I like these days that I haven't heard anything worth buying in a very long time. Imagine my surprise and delight when I had a chance to listen to about three songs from TBSZ while recently shopping in a Santa Monica store. I agree with another reviewer that there's a hint of Steely Dan (my all-time fave) in there, but I also hear a touch of legend Bill Withers too. I found myself asking the store keeper for the name of the CD she was playing. Not only did she give me the name, but she gave me the site for CD Baby -- a double find. TBSZ is no one-song wonder. It's truly worth replaying (and replaying) from start to finish!

Takes me back to my roots!!
Its the 1960's, I am in a blues club in North or East Houston. This CD captures the club spirit in those times just as if you were there. Every song is fantastic and entertaining. A collaboration from the heart. Thanks for helping bring me home.

The CD is beautifully written and is easy to relate too. The songs grab your soul and take you to your own little island, in the back of your mind. I love the song and would buy it.

Absolutely awesome! Timeless. My favorite all-time album.
The tunes are not only beautifully performed and arranged but the lyrics are just incredible. I can honestly say that this is the first album I have ever owned that I LOVE every single song. From toe-tapping to slow dancing, this is the album I want to have with me if I ever get stranded on a desert island.

Refreshing blend of old school funk and progressive jazz
The musical arrangements are tight with lots of chunky horns, solid vocals, and beautiful harmonies. The lyrics on the original scores are catchy and meaningful. Exciting and refreshing music with an edge. I want to hear more.

This CD is a perfect example of what is missing in todays music. Honesty, sincerety and above all SOUL!
It is from the heart and will be playing in my "chante" for a

What more can be said about "perfection" for one's heart and soul!
I found this album to be truly exceptional-from cover to cover - the artist, songs, band, artwork - the vast array of feelings and emotions it brings up is wonderful. This will be a definite plus in my collection. Well done to one and all.
