ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
ABOUT THE FILM

What if our last act could be a gift to the planet? Determined that his final resting place will benefit the earth, musician, psychiatrist, and folk dancer Clark Wang prepares for his own green burial while battling lymphoma. The spirited Clark and his partner Jane, boldly facing his mortality, embrace the planning of a spiritually meaningful funeral and join with a compassionate local cemetarian to use green burial to save a North Carolina woods from being clear-cut.

With poignancy and unexpected humor, A Will for the Woods portrays the last days of a multifaceted advocate – and one community's role in the genesis of a revolutionary movement. As the film follows Clark's dream of leaving a legacy in harmony with timeless cycles, environmentalism takes on a profound intimacy.

ABOUT THE MUSIC

We always knew that music would be a big part of the film, given Clark's passion and talent for it – and that his choice of what to play in a given moment would so well convey what was going on for him. It often felt like Clark was "scoring" his own story, and so for the first two-thirds of the film, composer T. Griffin created a score that includes music for scenes of the woods and for the larger green burial movement, but that mostly steps aside for Clark, letting him play his own music throughout the majority of his scenes. When Clark could no longer make music, his friends began to play, and in the film Griffin's score gently emerges to carry us through until the end. The music also plays beautifully as an album, taking the listener on a meditative journey through a variety of emotions and soundscapes.
