Album Notes
Tom Hamilton's new CD "London Fix" uses spot market charts to make music changing with the price of gold.

New York composer Tom Hamilton turns gold into music in his latest CD titled "London Fix" just released by Muse-Eek Publishing. The recent bull market in gold has rekindled investor interest in the metal, and this new recording traces these dramatic price moves through flowing synthesizer lines.

To create the rippling music featured throughout this CD, Hamilton used his unique compositional system to convert fluctuations in spot gold price charts into streams of electronic sound. Much more poetic than literal, the musical result mirrors the ebb and flow of the market - sonic price charts intersecting and evolving in harmony. Played softly, this continuous stream of electronic music provides a curiously restful sound environment.

TOM HAMILTON has composed and performed electronic music for over 30 years. Rather than addressing traditional modes of expression, presentation and observation, Hamilton often explores the interaction of many simultaneous layers of activity. Since 1990, Hamilton has been a member of composer Robert Ashley's touring opera ensemble.

London Fix has been awarded an Honorary Mention in the 2004 Prix Ars Electronica, Digital Music category.

"...generating a rich counterpoint out of the stark analytic data...colourful and seductive."
- The Wire

"...the results bubble with energy, a veritable counterpoint of indeterminacy..."
- Gramophone

"...this brilliant piece of sound art is a sure thing."
- Darren Bergstein, e/i magazine

"A fascinating piece of speculative music"
- Victor Niederhoffer, Daily Speculations

"What captivates most is the sense of whimsical calm Hamilton brings to his richly populated sound-flurries. The serenely ordered clutter wins one over instantly."
- La Folia

"If only London Fix were to predict future gold prices, then the album might prove 'gold' in all senses of the word."
- Futures magazine
