Searider

by The Barbwires

The Barbwires’ goal was to make a guitar-driven surf instrumental album in the spirit of a sixties’ Brian Wilson production with string arrangements by Jack Nitzsche. “Searider” has a huge, wide sound that certainly achieves that goal.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
I met The Barbwires in 1998 for the first time in their native Stockholm while on tour with Jon & The Nightriders and met them again in 2008 in Livorno, Italy, to do an interview related to the film documentary, “Sound of The Surf.” At the time, they were just preparing to release “Searider,” their first studio recording in seven years.

That original release of “Searider” has since become one of the most significant recordings among contemporary surf instrumental releases. Its ambitious and lush production uses a full orchestra (The Blue Ocean Orchestra) – and a variety of other instruments (including a bowed saw) – to provide texture without being overly distracting.

The Barbwires’ goal was to make a guitar-driven surf instrumental album in the spirit of a sixties’ Brian Wilson production with string arrangements by Jack Nitzsche. “Searider” has a huge, wide sound that certainly achieves that goal and honors the inspiration. This was a very distinctive and impressive effort when it was first released in 2008, and it still is. I’m sure you’ll agree.
