Album Notes
A History of Style
A few years ago we were introduced through a mutual acquaintance to Tut Riddick. Tut, an acclaimed artist, author and poet who lives in Mobile, Alabama, had the notion that she'd like some of her poems set to music and we thought it might be an interesting challenge. We eagerly set to work on the first dozen or so poems that she mailed to us but soon realized that simply setting her words verbatim to our music wasn't going to work.
We then tried a different approach and began writing songs based on the thoughts and visions Tut's poems inspired while still using as many of her original verses as possible. Three months later we sent a 4-song demo and waited for Tut's reaction. We were quite relieved when she gave us the green light and full artistic license. This 12-song CD is the result of this unusual long distance collaboration.
