Album Notes
The Blind Dates were a fun loving trio from Charlotte. They became locally popular after their performance at SpringFest a well-attended Charlotte arts celebration.

Here’s what John Grooms, Creative Loafing editor wrote:

“Then came The Blind Dates, a three woman rock group that talent notwithstanding was undoubtedly unfamiliar to nine tenths of the crowd. Playing a muscular brand of intelligent pop rock, they instantly won over the Festgoers, and the crowd quickly grew. After a particularly energetic new song, half way through the band’s set, the crowd (by then swollen enough to jam 6th Street as far as the eye could see) erupted in a roar. It was as much a roar of recognition as of approval; recognition that yes, Charlotte produces great musical talent, and yes, it’s time we heard it in a public setting like this.”

They expanded to regional success largely due to the popularity of their only recording: The Yellow Tape. A result of a Battle of the Bands win whose prize was studio time.

All of the members of The Blind Dates stayed in the music business. Gina formed the oft-heralded Doubting Thomas and Volatile Baby. Deanna went onto much acclaim as half of the spirited duo 2nd Skin, which later became Violet Strange. She remains active in various musical projects. Penny became the owner/operator of The Milestone and Tremont Music Hall, bringing to the Charlotte area everyone from Iggy Pop to Paula Cole. She now owns the eclectic eatery Dish, located in the heart of Plaza Midwood.
