ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Digipack. 2 CD set with 18 songs on each CD.
The Italian Milano-based record label and booking agency ‘Feelin’ Good Productions’ has supported an extensive roster of blues musicians in their continuous effort to play their music for as many blues addicted lovers as possible. By booking them for shows all over Europe, the label has been laying the basis for releases of the work from these artists on cd. The first twenty releases by ‘Feelin’ Good Productions’ contain hours - even days - of splendid blues music and have reached thousands of fans.
Now the time has come to celebrate and to reward their loyal fan base with the release of an amazing compilation album. ‘The Blues You Can’t Refuse’ consists of over two and a half hours of excellent blues music that make this compilation a very strong offer, really hard to refuse.

There are 36 tracks on this double CD, giving a concise introduction to the music that the Feelin’Good label has released on over 20 albums from its base in Italy – and they are also artists with whom label boss Tano Ro has worked closely over the years. There is a wide range of blues styles on offer here, though with a marked Texas/ California bias, (for a change!). Sonny Rhodes is the veteran in this company (and deservedly gets the cover shot – he has worked with Tano since the very early 80s), but other Lone Star guitar slingers include Texas Slim and the adopted Oklahoman Shawn Pittman, California is represented by Andy Just, Gail Muldrow, The San Francisco Gospel Singers, and Cassandra Mathews & The San Francisco Gospel Divas, and then European resident saxman Detroit Gary Wiggins, Chicago’s Vivian Vance Kelly, and Boston’s Brian Templeton (of The Radio Kings) prove the label does not stick to a strict formula. There are some famous names too, among the backing musicians. With music that runs from Andy Just’s jug-band-ish cover of ‘Dirty Mother Fuyer’ to Gail Muldrow’s version of ‘Play That Funky Music’ and Shawn Pittman’s rocking ‘Looking Good’, this is certainly a release to consider, not refuse!

This is a thirty-six track sampler encompassing the entire catalogue of Feelin’ Good Records. A label which brings the blues of America to blues lovers of mainland Europe, while at the same time introducing lesser known talents to the world at large, talents that have as a consequence of European exposure via tours and recordings courtesy of Feelin’ Good Productions, have returned home to find their profile in the blues world considerably improved. The outstanding numbers found on this intriguing and wholly satisfying collection are from artists such as; the San Franciscan Gail ‘Mojo’ Muldrow, a guitar player with a raw and feisty playing style, she kicks of the album with a rather tasty version of Willie Dixon’s “I Wanna Make Love To You,” other featured artists are the Legendary Texas lap playing guitarist Sonny Rhodes, who with over fifty years of experience in creating subtle and scorching blues is still playing with charm, taste and inspiration today. Two highly individualistic harmonica players in Brian Templeton on the east coast and once again Andy Just the renowned west coast player, each of them display why after many years on the scene they are still on the cutting edge of harmonica led blues. Two more engrossing and absorbing guitarists to be found on this sampler are also from Texas, the soul infused Texas Slim and the highly rated rocking Shawn Pittman; each of them supplying very alluring blues licks. Gospel music normally has its own little niche but, with Cassandra Mathews and The San Francisco Gospel Divas along with The San Francisco Gospel Singers they loudly and proudly spread the word with scintillating voices and splendid musicianship.
From the odd release here and there in the beginning Feeling Good Records has garnered an outstanding roster of talent, in fact it is a catalogue to be proud of. We can only hope to hear more from this label.

These two releases are from Feelin’ Good Productions, a company created for the promotion of blues music across Europe by the Italian promoter Tano Ro, an avid blues fan himself, who turned his love of the blues into a vocation, in nineteen seventy-six; based in Milan he started promoting up and coming blues artists who might not get the exposure or opportunities that they clearly deserve in their native countries. Thirty years later he formed his own record label, now, twenty albums later we have the great opportunity to listen to these artists. First up is a taster for the forthcoming Blues Explosion Summer Tour which will take place in 2012. The three mesmerising artists playing on this album are Texas Slim a Texan guitar player in a similar mould to that of one his heroes the legendary Johnny Winter who, after playing and paying his dues in the clubs and bars of Texas, finally achieves the recognition his invigorating and exciting playing deserves. Also, Chicago born blues singer Vivian Vance Kelly, who has been singing since her infancy, the daughter of famed guitarist Vance Kelly it can be safely stated that the blues is well and truly in her blood; a vibrant, confidant and sassy performer she sings with the fervour of a true believer. Last but certainly not least is the world famous harmonica player Andy Just, a man who not only fronts the Robben Ford Band but, is a blistering solo artist whose performances on a good number of blues albums have captivated all.
