Album Notes
Known for his heavy metal history matt takes a left turn at Funkytown and lays it down on this cut that will get you off your feet and dancing to the beat
McCourt is a one man band on this track playing keyboard, Drums, Bass and Guitar on the instrumental.
his love of funk and blues oozes from the grooves . Matt has been playing music since the ripe age of 7 starting on drums and moving on to string instruments by age 10. Raised in a family full of noteworthy Jazz drummers who were sought after players in the Jazz scene of the 40's in what people have called the new jazz capital west of Chicago, those influences were the foundation for matt's early inspiration. once JImi Hendrix came into his life at age 10 ( the year Hendrix died ) and changed his way of looking at music(and life)
A chameleon with the skills of a minah bird he could fit into just about any situation and style(most likely so he could jam with anyone who would let him) He appropriated the bass at age 15 so sitting out all night wouldn't be an option as the shortage of bassists allowed him to play all night long with a bunch of the local hot shot string benders( all who were 10 years older than he ) by 16 he was recording his own demos with 2 tape recorders in the basement and a radio shack mixer overdubbing in a what would now be considered extremely primitive but one thing he was never short on was passion.
Passion drove this strange thinking fellow and secured a record label deal by age 19 , the beginning of a long career as a recording artist on many notable labels like Shrapnel who focused on extremely talented guitarists ( yngwie paul gilbert tony macalpine are among the ranks)
after 3 decades of heavy metal notoriety it was time to do something different and started recording different styles of music and this is one of his efforts.
Matt's love of funk, the blues and urban music and culture is well known to his friends but seems to confuse his heavy metal fans, after a few ill fated attempts at forming a band ( the Bootyshakers) it seemed natural to just DIY as he has his entire life. and this is one of many of the songs recorded in 2012 at his home away from home a 12'x15' "studio" in an office complex in SW pdx
