Album Notes
An acoustic blend of Irish, Folk, Rock, and Country music – featuring guitars, vocals, mandolin, whistle fiddles, percusion and accordion, The Chancey Brothers are a high energy band who cover classic Irish pub songs and ballads along with a variety of country and rock covers. (Think the Clancy Brothers/Pogues meet Mumford and Sons/Old Crow Medicine Show). While the core of their performances is still based on the Irish songs, the band can morph itself easily to embrace any party.

In the spirit of their heroes - The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem - The Chancey Brothers sing all your favorite Irish pub songs, ballads, and rebel tunes. The Chanceys are a lively act for any occasion. The Chancey Brothers have been playing around Chicagoland and the Midwest since 2002 performing favorites from almost every Irish artist you can think of (such as Christy Moore, Saw Doctors, Wolf Tones, etc.), the Chanceys always liven up a party. Over time, they began adding other types of music to their repertoire - covering favorite rock and country songs and basically anything that the Brothers enjoyed playing themselves. While the core of their performances is still based on the Irish songs, the band can morph itself easily to embrace any party. They've played weddings, festivals, smokey dive bars, 90th birthday parties, block parties, anniversary parties - you name it! If you are lucky, they might even throw in a little rock and roll!

In true Irish fashion it’s all about laughter and song, and they've yet to find a party that they didn't enjoy!

The Chancey Brothers are:

David Chancey – 6 & 12 string guitar, vocals, percussion, bass, and mandolin. The older brother. David was always momma’s favorite. He’s the serious one, but find him a piano and he quickly becomes the human jukebox. David is the musician’s musician in the band. Having studied music theory at Yale, Dave hit the road at a young age with his guitar on his back and his thumb hitching for a ride. Landing in L.A. for awhile, he eventually made it back home where his suberb guitar playing and talent for making quality music drives the band and keeps his erstwhile brothers in line.

Bob Chancey – vocals, hesitant tambourine and other lame attempts at percussion. Bob has never met a microphone he doesn’t like. He is the epitome of an Irish-American: big, loud and proud. His wears his passion for all things Irish on his sleeve and channels that into traditional songs and ballads. Bob’s singing sets the pace for the band – and he can drive the van, too! (Although he now holds the band record for most moving violations garnered while driving home from South Bend).

Gregg Chancey – mandolin, fiddle, percussion, vocals, bass guitar. Gregg plays any instrument we ask him to and he does it well. As the brother we always picked on (and still do), he needed to learn as many instruments as possible so we would keep him in the band. Gregg was the quiet one growing up (boy. Some things change!), and took a different route playing classical music, at church and eventually jazz and country swing. He packs all those styles into his amazing fiddle playing and now he’s back where he belongs playing Irish music with his brothers.

Kati Chancey – flute, whistle, vocals. Nope, she’s not a brother, but our wonderfully talented young cousin who brings a beautiful voice, a dazzling flute, a gleaming whistle and a little class to this affair. A product of the Academy of Irish Music, Kati is well-versed in the traditional side of Irish music and has been playing music from a very young age. On the surface, a fragile flower, but don’t mess with her and, for God’s sake, don’t ask her about the tattoos or about the “lost years” (which may or may not have involved a cabin in the woods with seven little men).

Brendan Chancey – fiddle, mandolin, and Guinness. Another young cousin who, when not playing his fiddle and doing his part drinking for the entire band, spends his time fighting fires and saving lives as a Chicago Fireman. Before that, though, came Irish music. Another graduate of the Academy of the Irish Music, Brendan comes from a family of musicians here and back in Ireland. A gifted fiddle player and another man who brings a passion to all things Irish especially, music, GAA football, Guinness, and did we mention Guinness?
