ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This recording brings together ‘old’ and ‘new’: music by some of the greatest composers of the
Renaissance era, interwoven with music by contemporary composers. With St James as patron
saint of Spain, it seems fitting that two members of The Choir of St James’, Brooke Shelley and
Joseph Twist, should turn to the Golden Age of Spanish Music for the inspiration behind their
compositions, paying homage whilst adding their own ‘twist’ to the original material of the great
masters. In addition to the works by Josquin, Morales and Victoria that formed the basis of this
“metamorphosis”, we have included the motet: ‘O lux et decus Hispaniae’ (‘O light and grace of
Spain’), Victoria’s own tribute to the Most Holy Apostle James.
