Standing in the Doorway

by The Christian Brothers

Their music is mellifluous but powerful. Their style is reminiscent of Sam Cooke with the bluesy, jazzy guitar designed to minister to the souls of sinners and reach to the ears of God.

The Christian Brothers gospel quartet formed in New Orleans. “On The Battlefield” was their first album released in 1996. The members then included lead singer and gospel hall of famer Allen Butler. Also with the group were two former members of The Zion Harmonizers ,namely, Louis Johnson and Nories Louis. Earl Peterson was with the group then and Louis Cooper, the current manager, lead/baritone singer, and guitarist. The current members are:

Louis Cooper - Lead Guitar, vocals
Marshall Mcquater - Bass Guitar, vocals
Lawrence Davis - Vocals
Jeremy Brown, Thaddeus Johnson - Drums

and producer Rev. Larry Young formerly of Slim and The Supreme Angels. The members of the group now include two deacons.

Their music style is characterized by their blend of good old classic gospel quartet with the bluesy, jazzy guitar. Louis Cooper (manager and guitarist) brings experience to this new group having been with several touring groups in the past (The Royal Harmonizers of Washington D.C., The New Spirits of Boston and The Jubilee Travelers in Northern Virginia).

The Christian Brothers appear each third Sunday in New Orleans at Macedonia Baptist Church, 2810 Erato St, 70113 at 3:30pm.

The title song on the last album from The Christian Brothers is “Standing In The Doorway”. This is a reminder that God loves us and He is always standing there when we need Him and His Word is always with us.The songs are classic gospel quartet flavored and are designed for today’s gospel listeners old and young to inspire and reassure.

The Christian Brothers want to deliver a great message in the music and keep the gospel quartet music authentic, not too hard and not too soft.
