ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
My history in Palm Springs began in the mid 1980’s, when I first moved to Los Angeles. Opportunities to work in the Desert would come up now and then – sometimes a show with headliners, sometimes a corporate event, and the occasional concert.
By 1998, I had a few steady gigs in the Desert, so I decided to purchase a small condo near the Tram. Work continued to increase, and I began to spend more and more time in the area. I moved into a larger house, while still maintaining my residence in Los Angeles.
Over the years, I performed often with Larry Holloway and Tim Pleasant. My history with Tim dates back to the early Nineties, when Tim was living in New York City, and I had a one year residency in New Jersey. Tim later moved to Los Angeles, and then to Palm Springs. I first met Larry when he relocated to Desert Hot Springs, from Seattle, in 2011.
In 2016, we began playing a steady Wednesday night gig at AJ’s On The Green, in Cathedral City. The trio really clicked – we found we had a close rhythmic connection, and that we instinctively listened to and understood each other’s ideas. Eventually, I was inspired to capture the group “on tape” along with our special guest, Big Black.
Palm Springs’ style and vibe are so compelling, that it was as if the city itself became an additional member of the band. ’Mid Century Modern’ can indeed be considered a state of mind.

- Doug MacDonald, November 2019
