Album Notes
The Counterclockwise Ensemble is a guitar, strings and percussion quintet that plays contemporary American chamber music. Equally at home in a variety of genres, the group primarily plays the compositions of guitarist Rich Stein, sprinkling in pieces by Copland, Mozart and Led Zeppelin as well as traditional American tunes into their sets.

The ensemble includes Rich Stein (guitar), Andrew and Rebecca Perea (orchestral strings), Glen Saunders (double bass) and Jim Mansfield (percussion).

Says composer/guitarist Rich Stein: Theory of Mind is the kind of recording I've been wanting to make for years. The musicians are at their best, and producer Philip Jimenez has captured the intensity of the group while shaping the overall sound with his innate sense of orchestration. The results are thrilling. The performances are first rate; the overall vibe of the record is somewhere between traditional chamber music and the finest of progressive rock.

“On behalf of the Heckscher Museum I would like to thank you, Richard and the Counterclockwise Ensemble for a phenomenal performance. The energy and audience response was off the charts! Rich Stein’s eclectic composing and arranging is brilliant in addition to the virtuosity and musicianship of the entire Ensemble. Their enthusiasm is infectious! We look forward to having them fill the museum once again with music.” Che Sabalja, Program Director, Heckscher Museum of Art
