ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
In Jazz, four is the perfect number: 4/4 is the time signature of swing; four beats to the bar is the backbone of the walking bass; and the quartet, a group of four, is the classic combo of modern jazz -- drums, bass, piano, and saxophone. That's what makes four the central concept of the Fourtet. As the group's founder since 2000, I have been mixing and matching the four elements of this format with some of the Northern California's most talented players to create a continuously evolving jazz project, a celebration of the freedom of new ideas. The group interprets music of the Masters like John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, Thelonious Monk, Joe Henderson, Charlie Parker, and Sonny Rollins, as well as standards from the Great American Songbook. The Fourtet also performs original music composed by it's members and has produced three CDs including "The Seeker," a 2008 release featuring all original material. The new release for 2015, "November Sessions," presents a diverse program of straight-ahead jazz intermingled with Latin, funk, and fusion tinged interpretations of jazz classics, modern compositions, and features some new original material.
