Album Notes
Time flies when you are having fun, and the Dujka Brothers "25 Years Making Tracks" celebrates the fun music they've enjoyed performing over the years. John and Mark have been making tracks across Texas since 1986 and have performed at some of the state's biggest events as well as being a part of so many smaller, yet special private engagements. They've appeared on RFD-TV in recent years and have developed a national/international following as well. During the years, they have recorded countless tracks and have made countless friends along they way. Their mix of Czech, English, German, and instrumental polka is fresh and engaging, paying homage to folk tradition and to great melody with their special musicianship and vocal harmonies.

"25 Years Making Tracks" is a snapshot of The Dujka Brothers music today, inspired by numerous musicians of today and yesterday. The "Chimney Sweep Polka" is a rousing instrumental with The Dujka Brothers signature saxophone/trumpet blend and accordion trio. "Singing Mockingbird Waltz" sung in Czech, pays tribute to their dear friends, the Vrazels Polka Band of Buckholtz, TX. The "Happy Go Lucky Polka" is a fun traditional melody with English lyrics that will put a smile on your face. "My Darling Polka" again pays tribute to the Vrazels Polka Band and their signature piano accordion/diatonic accordion sound. "The Beautiful Dream Waltz" is a beautiful accordion instrumental inspired by the recordings of the late Texas bandleader Lee Roy Matocha. The Dujka Brothers give this waltz a contemporary feel that is truly "dream-like".

The Dujka Brothers then pay homage to traditional Czech band sound of the late Ernie Kucera of Nebraska with their rousing rendition of "The Little Goose Polka". Next on the CD, brother Mark Dujka sings the classic "It's Four In The Morning", showing the Dujka Brothers versatility. "Hooray for Charlie" is a fun-loving song that pays tribute to the brother's biggest fan (literally) Uncle Charles "Beartracks" Brossmann. The song speaks of "Beartracks" and his love of polka, Chevy trucks, and Lone Star Beer. "Wild Goose Waltz" is a traditional Czech song that became quite popular in Texas dance halls in the 1990s. "Cotton Patch Polka" is a peppy instrumental inspired by a recording by the late Jodie Mikula and His Orchestra of Ennis, TX. "Haunted Garret Waltz" is another traditional Czech waltz the Dujka Brothers learned from their mentor and grade school music teacher Al Sulak of Orchard, TX, and set to a jazzy Dujka Brothers arrangement.

"Never Ending Song of Love" is a great country hit that the Dujka Brothers grew up listening to and wanted to give their own special touch on their anniversary album. "The Black Gypsy Waltz" is another beautiful Czech song the brothers learned as young boys playing their accordions along with their late grandfather Herman Brossmann in St. John, TX. "Last Date" is a classic Floyd Cramer song that features John Dujka on piano, and has a signature Dujka Brothers arrangement that is unlike any you may have heard of this song elsewhere. The next two songs, "Popcorn Polka" and "Somewhere My Love" were recorded by the Dujka Brothers to pay tribute to another group that was influential in their youthful musical development, The Telstars of Schulenburg, TX. The Telstars "New World of Polka" recorded in the early 1970s had a fresh sound and inspired singing by Leo Kopecky and Royce Shimek. It was a favorite 8-track tape that the Dujka Brothers would enjoy while riding down the roads of Texas in their parents "Ninety Eight" Oldsmobile. Finally, the "Roaring Mountains Polka" is a classic Czech song that is always guaranteed to get folks out on the dance floor.

The Czech lyrics and English translations for these songs are available on the Dujka Brothers website.

The Dujka Brothers would like to thank all of those who have helped them over the last 25 years and look forward to many more good times!
