Spoonful

by The Excellos

Yet another slice of The Excellos sound stamped all over this twisted up cover version of the Howling Wolf classic and standard Spoonful. There is hardly any let up in the pace and intensity of the bands latest 45rpm from Rollin Records. On vinyl too!!

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Masters of the blues bopper, The Excellos are back with a double sided bop fest! "Spoonful" is a blues classic, that's never been done quite like this. That's what's great about this band. They have a copyrighted sound which they stamp over everything. Have a listen to the excerpts on the player, and I've purposely included the guitar break of "Rock Me". One of the finest sounds around! – Rollin Records, UK

Craig Shaw co-founder to The Excellos, whose ranks are only Adam Wakefield and himself as original members plus Garry Lynch on drums. Shakes the dust from the work with this new 45 rpm.
We can say that little change is noticed, the sound bluesy, raw and cavernous which the band has displayed since its inception is unleashed from the first second, perhaps even more acute than in previous installments.

SPOONFUL is a revision of the classic Willie Dixon would triumph in the hands of Howlin 'Wolf but retains little of its original forms. The pace quickens in time and intensity, and everything the previous topic we should add a harmonica bleeding. Both issues discharge their responsibilities, but mostly left me caught SPOONFUL; superb.

ROCK ME follows the classic structure of blues bopper marked hypnotic rhythm and percussion. Point guitar solo tune and a rattlesnake that never sleeps, while Craig sporting a studded tiled throat.

The rhythm section on this recording takes the bulk of the matter, I am unable to say with what they do record them, giving the impression that one Timbala have gotten into the bass or strings that have a hype, creating a humid jungle unique rhythm and sticky.
A presentation viejuna with corporate folder Rollin 'Records and biscuit accompanies this excellent vintage vinyl great song. Super recommended.
