ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"Four Decades of Surf...with Three and Half Decades Missing?"

In 1967, when the original band formed, instrumental music was already past its prime. The "Summer of Love" found young people listening to the sounds of psychedelia rather than the sounds of the surf. The "British Invasion" was already in its third wave and the Beatles and Stones shared the airwaves with the Jefferson Airplane and the Greatful Dead. Unlike every other aspiring band at the time, we were looking backward and being inspired by the "old wave" of the Ventures, Shadows, and Dick Dale rather than the "new wave" of the Cream and Jimi Hendrix.

So even back then, instrumental music "spoke to us". It was about happy, carefree young people enjoining the pleasures of the natural world. The warmth of the sun, cool ocean breezes, waves caressing the shores, and the feel of sand beneath their feet. Even the summer nights were warm and inviting. Surf music evoked all of the good things in life. Health, happiness, good friends, and the beauty of Nature. And there might be a hot rod or woody wagon in there, too!

No other music can evoke these light, bright sights, sounds, and feelings the way that 60's instrumental music can. That's why we played it back in 1967 and that why we write and play it today.

Enjoy the music!!!
