Album Notes
The Family Carr plays contemporary/traditional music with drive. Kevin Carr and Josie Mendelsohn and their offspring Daniel and Molly Carr have a trunkful of tunes and songs collected over the years in dance halls, festivals and along the byways of America, Europe and Quebec. The play with verve and passion and with a rare harmonic and melodic inventiveness that still pays deep respect to the sources of these timeless musical treasures. A Family Carr concert might include Galician foliadas, muiñeiras and xotas, old time Appalachian fiddle breakdowns and southern ballads, Irish pipe tunes, Quebecois reels and gigues, spoons duets, as well as newly composed traditional tunes which are both in the style and in the groove.

Kevin Carr has played for dances across the continent with Hillbillies from Mars, in concert halls up and down the west coast with Wake the Dead, at festivals in Quebec and California with Les Tetes de Violon, and taught at fiddle camps and festivals all around the USA and in Europe. With the Family Carr he plays fiddle, Irish and Galician bagpipes, and sings.

Josie Mendelsohn was a founding member of the seminal Bluegrass band, The Good Ol' Persons, with Laurie Lewis and Kathy Kallick, played with Irish accordion greats Kevin Keegan and Joe Burke, adds all the fiddle harmony to cult favorite Quebecois band, Les Tetes de Violon, and is well known as the consummate vocal harmonizer. In Family Carr she plays keyboards, percussion, fiddle, banjo and sings.

Daniel Carr has found his calling in the last few years as an rhythmically inventive and powerfully percussive guitarist. He toured last summer with Galician band As Faiscas in Spain and on the West Coast of the USA. In the Family Carr he plays Guitar and Mandolin.

Molly Carr recently returned from two years in Galicia, Spain where she founded several bands, including As Faiscas, with whom she toured last summer. In the Family Carr she plays mandolin, percussion, fiddle and sings.
