ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Mix 8 musicians, each drawing from different musical traditions to create modern American dance music--on all-acoustic instruments. Tara Greenblatt sings and plays drums and djembe, Karl Wilson holds up the bass on tuba, Barbara Leavy brings in a West African influence on balafon, Leslie Vogel adds color with piano and accordion, Phillip Sherwood-berndt brings the sweetness and rhythm of acoustic guitar, Walden Whitham adds his impressionistic take on sax and flute, Fred Simmons plays leads on trombone and brings with him his Grateful Dead-jamband influence, and Tudie Stropparo adds her stellar vocals. They first came together to create a New Orleans Mardi Gras experience, and this album is a testament to their continued survival and success. Eight original songs, two traditional tunes and two cover songs round out this creative endeavor which is sure to have you dancing in the kitchen with the rest of your family. It's wild, it's unique and it's beautiful. Check it out!
