Live

by The Gin Club

It’s been almost two years since the release of Deathwish, The Gin Club’s critically acclaimed fourth album. Now The Club are set to release their first live album, appropriately titled The Gin Club Live.  Funded via crowd sourcing site IndieGoGo, the album has been assembled from a stockpile of live recordings that the band have amassed over their eight year history, and includes performances at The East Brunswick Club in Melbourne, Brisbane’s iconic Troubadour (including their emotionally charged set on the venue’s last night), and The Brisbane Hotel in Hobart - to name just a few. The album features performances and tracks from all eight principal songwriters and includes a selection of fan favourites - “Drugflowers”, “Company Kept” and “Campus Blues” - as well as some more eclectic cuts from the band’s back catalogue – the cricket noir of “Brisbane 1933” and a solo piano rendition of “Minnesota” - and one previously unrecorded track, the Dan Mansfield-penned “Curves and Bends”

The band have continued to cement their reputation as an unmissable live act with a series of tours, including last year's winter shows with feted Melbourne goth-soul outfit Harmony, as well as a memorable series of Christmas shows featuring another visit from Swedish multi instrumentalist Ola Karlsson. They have also been busy with other projects ␣ along with the usual jobs/kids/mercenary careers, Ben Salter ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ their debut albums, while Gus Agars and Dan Mansfield toured with Tex Perkins and You Am I respectively.

␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ very true - ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ and no re-recording of any parts at all, which is fairly common with 'live' albums and has been for years, for better or worse. Nor did we approach the shows any differently because they were recorded.. the recording was just something that was available at the venues. So you get a very good idea of what a Gin Club show is like - warts and all. Sometimes we bite off more than we can ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣ band, and these recordings, so compelling.. in this era of musical perfection and revisionism I think the honesty
and mistakes lend a lot of soul to the performances, and
