ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Glimpses are a folk rock/Americana duo based in Alexandria, Virginia. Drawing from traditional folk, blues, country, rock, and jazz, Mercedes Mill and Matthew Leonard create soulful tunes, steeped in haunting melodies and honeyed harmonies. Their paths converged one summer day at a music studio and they’ve been making music together ever since, captivating audiences with their vibrant songs and dynamic performances.

Mercedes grew up singing in church choirs, playing in eclectic musical productions, and marrying her love of music and poetry in songwriting. Classically trained on piano and a member of several DC rock bands through the years, Matthew Leonard never met an instrument he didn't like and has worked as a studio musician and recording engineer. Inspired by a shared love of such artists as The Beatles, Ella Fitzgerald, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Fairport Convention, Bob Dylan, and Jefferson Airplane, The Glimpses released their debut EP “No Stranger” in 2014, earning praise for their powerful songs.

Reviewer DivaShane at Music Bank wrote of their single “What a Day May Bring”, "I think I need to go lock myself in a room for a day and listen to this song... The vocals and the music both hold their own bits of goodness so the combination is kinda like chocolate and peanut butter. [Mercedes] has a voice that is a once in a generation thing." They are currently recording their debut full-length album.

Their performances are lively and engaging, drawing comparisons to the legendary collaborations of Richard & Linda Thompson, Alison Krauss & Robert Plant, and The Civil Wars. They’ve played at many notable venues and festivals, including the National Cherry Blossom Festival, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Mountville Folk Festival, the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance, Iota, Singer Songwriter Cape May, DC9, the Black Potatoe Woodstock Living History Festival, First Night Alexandria, and the DC Green Festival.
