ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Steve Smith, Anne Luna and Chris Sanders, New Mexico's HARD ROAD TRIO, deliver their third recording project, a self-titled CD that raises the bar with their signature acoustic arrangements, and original music that grooves and inspires. Whether it's Steve Smith's remarkable mandolin playing, beautifully crafted original tunes, or sweet harmonies, Hard Road Trio music is acoustic artistry. Recipients of several New Mexico Music Awards, their album MONTICELLO reached the top 5 in the Billboard Roots Chart. You may have heard their music inflight on Lufthansa Airlines!

The Trio returns with often requested cover tunes, swinging Guy Clark and Verlon Thompson's "Tornado Time in Texas", and rolling out some masterful bluegrass mandolin on John Cadley's "Weary Cowboy". The Trio is proud and grateful to feature some of their favorite musicians as special guests: Nashville fiddler Nate Lee (Becky Buller Band, Alan Munde Gazette) brings his lyrical fire to "Five Shades of Black" and "Prime the Pump." Also from Nashville, Tim May (Patty Loveless, Moody Bluegrass, Charlie Daniels) appears on dobro on "Where the River Begins" with drummer Eric Boseman (Janet Jackson, Sting) perfectly underscoring the groove. Session producer and recording engineer at Swingfingers Studio, Aaron Youngberg (Hit and Run Bluegrass, Finders and Youngberg), adds pedal steel desert colors to "Ojos de Dios". Tucson fiddler Nick Coventry (Black Market Trust) joins Anne Luna on bass on "Mama, Spin Me 'Round" to create a cinematic roots string quartet. Nick also jams the best Texas swing fiddle west of the Mississippi on "Tornado Time in Texas".

This album was recorded at Swingfingers Studio in Fort Collins, known for working with some of the best acoustic bands in the West, and at Steve Smith's Cave in Las Cruces. Mastered by Grammy winner David Glasser at Airshow in Boulder, THE HARD ROAD TRIO is true to life music and rich sonic fidelity that will seduce your ears and draw you into the Trio's vivid desert soundscape.
