Album Notes
Formed in early 2015, the Hens are fast drawing notice for their tight, catchy songwriting, top-notch singing and playing, and adventurous pursuit of musical styles that range from klezmer to classic Texas honky-tonk.

When singer/guitarist Dave Aaronoff moved to Austin in 2014, he had spent years in the Boston music scene, including time with the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, garage-rock champs Muck and the Mires, and fronting his own band, the Protagonists. Dave knew quickly that he had come to the right place to find a home for his witty, sophisticated songwriting, and quickly assembled a band of players well known in Austin for their versatility and instrumental prowess. The rest of the Hens lineup includes fiddler/vocalist Heather Rae Johnson (Gumbo Ce Soir, JWW & the Prospectors), guitarist Tom Umberger (Jason Arnold & the Stepsiders, JWW & the Prospectors), bassist Ricky Rees (Soul Supporters, Skyline Wranglers), and Matt Myers (JWW & the Prospectors), players who learned their craft the old-school way: through years of working every place in Central Texas with a beer cooler and a dance floor.
The Hens’ musical chemistry was immediate, and soon Dave and the Hens were performing on stages throughout town, including Austin landmarks like the Hole in the Wall, the White Horse, the Little Longhorn Saloon, and Gueros. After honing their sound, the Hens headed to Ameripolitan Studios to record their first album "Chicon" with legendary engineer Cris Burns.
