ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
With backgrounds in classical music and public speaking The Joko Band provides inspiration and motivation in our writing, singing and speaking. We deliver dynamic performances and collaboration with all sorts of sounds.

Joko (Andrew Joseph Kolankowski) is a Canadian speaker-singer-songwriter who first started writing music in 2009. He moved out of Airdrie Alberta when his uncle offered him a job and a place to live in Wellington Florida. Joko jumped on a greyhound bus with his good friend Chuck and took a 79 hour trip to “where the sawgrass meets the sky”. This sparked his creative flow. Joko’s uncle has been a musician all his life and continued to love music, this is where Jokos musical realization was born. He picked up his uncles black and white acoustic guitar and never looked back. He began writing songs on the acoustic guitar, ukulele and harmonica. After a year of living in the American South, he decided to go back to where his roots were still set in, Alberta.

In 2011, Joko moved out to a fancy little trailer on a farm in Bottrell, Alberta. Again with his good friend Chuck. This is where the art within him started to grow. He had nothing to do on this farm besides write. As he always surrounded himself with loving people, one of his loving friends gave him his first guitar and they began to write songs together. This snowballed into 10 songs, 20 songs, 30 songs. Now into music composed with Cello, Mandolin, Piano and even the slide whistle. Joko has written over 150 songs and is eager to collaborate, write, record and inspire more!

Renée Werenka started Suzuki piano lessons at the age of 4 and thus began a lifelong love of music. She plays cello as a part of the group The Joko Band, and strives to continually inspire others through facilitating drum circles and masterminds, and adjudicating at workshops, festivals and Institutes.
“For me, life is about loving, serving, empowering and encouraging people.”
