Album Notes

We are a family who absolutely loves Jesus, bluegrass music and being together. Bluegrass became a part of our lives when our third child said, "Mamma, I wanna learn to play fiddle." After a couple of less than enthusiastic children were drug into her adventure and then introduced to the most amazing bluegrass instructor ever- Rick Campbell from Geneva, Ohio- we were all hooked on bluegrass! We started lessons in 2010, playing with a young bluegrass musicians group in 2011 and playing as The Klein Family in 2012. What started as a desire for a family to sing campfire songs grew into a God-given calling and career to bless the world through bluegrass music. We'll introduce you to everyone one by one so when you listen, you'll feel like you're listening to a friend you've just met instead of just pickers and singers on an album you just acquired.

DeAnna is the oldest child in our family, being 19 at the time of our first recording. She is beautiful from the inside out and has a way of showing love to the world just by smiling. She has poured countless hours into developing her vocal range, dynamics and ability to sustain notes. You'll hear it! She's also an amazing fiddler and rhythm guitarist. She plays upright bass and mandolin too. She sings beautiful leads and very strong harmonies. She was so afraid to sing we promised her a puppy if she sang for six months. After six months, she was so sure that she wanted to go as far as she could as a singer so her very wise and creative parents convinced her she didn't have time for a puppy. (We would've made good if she wanted us to) DeAnna is amazing because she's been presented with some potentially wonderful opportunities that could seemingly make all her dreams come true but instead of seizing them, her first reaction has been to ask God what His direction for her life is. We've always told the children not to want anything more than you want what God wants and she has taken this to heart. She has consistently maintained, much to our delight, that God has called us as a family to music together and that she wants to play with her family. What a blessing it is that at her age, she chooses family.

Shawn Luke is our only son and is 15 at the time of this recording. His best quality is perseverance and he has it in spades. You might think from listening to him that music comes easy to him but this is the farthest thing from the truth. He is a living miracle because the Lord healed him from some very serious medical and developmental issues. The blessing in this is that he has learned to be content and to persist until he gets results. He is proof that hard work is a much greater ingredient in learning music than natural talent. He started on the fiddle and quickly developed a passion for banjo, the instrument he really took off on. He also plays resonator guitar, guitar, mandolin and bass. His playing and singing are very reminiscent of The Stanley Brothers, artists he greatly admires for their music and their faith. Shawn Luke has a strong faith and deep love for family. He also sings strong bluegrass leads and harmonies. After years of squabbles, he and DeAnna are truly best friends in a way that is so rare for siblings today. He has great ways about him and he definitely keeps us all straight!

Sylvia is the one we have to thank for all of this! 12 at the time of this recording, we call her our trailblazer because it was her desire that lead to the wonderful world of bluegrass we are living in now. She's absolutely beautiful, especially when she smiles. She started on fiddle and then transitioned to mandolin. She said that sometimes you think something is wonderful until you find something even more wonderful and for her that was the mandolin. She has a beautiful way with the mandolin, adding just the right touch to what a song needs through her playing. She greatly admires Bill Monroe and patterns her playing after his. She is also a powerful singer and has a strong and beautiful voice singing both lead and harmony. She plays guitar and upright bass too. She is the one always surprising us with singing stronger and playing more powerfully than even yesterday as well as the one who lifts us up the most! She is a great little and big sister and brings so much into our family just by being who she is. From the time she was little, she wanted to be a missionary and her faith shines through her wonderful personality and beautiful music.

Clara is the youngest, being 9 at the time of this release and she is all about the music! She sings loud and strong and displays a confidence that eludes many much older than her. She's so beautiful and is full of overflowing joy. She pulls a beautiful tone out of her fiddle and keeps up with some fast driving tunes. She can definitely hold her own when it comes to powerful vocals on both lead and harmony, lead and twin fiddle parts and lead and rhythm guitar. She also plays some mandolin. It's pretty adorable that her guitar is bigger than she is but she wants that full sound that only a full size instrument can offer. She has a desire to learn every instrument and we've found her sleeping with a banjo around her neck or sitting on the floor playing "Amazing Grace" on the resonator guitar. She is such a happy child and seriously didn't even cry as a baby. She loves people and is so excited about our first CD being ready to bless people. She's always the one reminding us of God's truth and Jesus' love in ways only a child can.

Liberty Klein is me, Mama Klein- a title I greatly love because in it are my two favorite roles in life- being a wife to an amazing husband and being a mother to such wonderful children. I absolutely don't mind telling people my age- 43 at the time of this release. We ended up with an extra fiddle in the beginning so I asked if I could join in. Rick, our instructor, gladly welcomed a mother wanting to share music with her children and from there, things took off. My more wonderful became the upright bass and we quickly sold our milk cow to buy one. Getting to sing and play music with my children is the most incredible blessing in my life. Walking through this world together as a family is better than any other path we could take. Our first desire is to serve God, then to bless people and be together as a family. Bluegrass music is the most wonderful way for that to happen. We meet so many terrific people and are constantly making new friends. Chris and I have been married over 20 years leading into the one who works tremendously hard to make all this happen...

Chris Klein is the Daddy who moves heaven and earth to acquire instruments, repair and maintain them, keep us in reliable transportation, run us all over the countryside and give us immense amounts of love, support and encouragement. Everyone always ask if he plays anything and technically the answer is "Yes!" He plays a mean "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" on the mandolin! He also plays "Shady Grove" and "Shortenin' Bread" but this is a father showing great love for his children more than a calling to play music. He is an incredible husband and father and the only challenge with the music is sometimes having to spend time away. If you meet him, you'll see why after those times, five people jump into his great big arms at once.

We play a combination of Traditional Bluegrass, Modern Bluegrass, Country, Gospel, Appalachian, Patriotic and Folk Music. We are an all acoustic band that plays everything from powerful fast driving bluegrass to slow waltzes to songs with incredibly powerful lyrics and so much more. We have wonderful family harmonies and exciting instrumentals. We hope something that we've done on our debut CD blesses you! Thanks for taking the time to read all about us. We love you all and count you as friends. God bless you in every way every day!
