FROM CASTLE RISING FOURTEEN SIXTY NINE
TO SIR JOHN SAY THIS LETTER I SIGN
RIGHT TRUSTY AND WELL BELOVED WE GREET YOU WELL
AND OF MY LACK OF FUNDS I DO SADLY TELL

THE KINGS GOOD GRACE HAS APPOINTED ME
TO ATTEND FOR HIS HIGHNESS I DID NOT FORESEE
MY URGENT REQUEST FOR ONE HUNDREDTH POUND
UNTIL NEXT EASTER WHEN REPAYMENT IS FOUND

FOR AT THIS TIME I AM IN GREAT NEED
AND I MUST SHOW YOU GOOD LORDSHIP INDEED

EDWARD THE FIFTH A BOY NEVER CROWNED
WITH HIS DISAPPEARANCE THE RUMOURS ABOUND

RICHARD OF GLOUCESTER AN HEIR TO THE THRONE
BUT OF THE PRECONTRACT HE HAD NOT KNOWN
THE CHRONICLES TELL US OF CONSPIRACY
IN A TEXT OF CONFUSION IN THE YEAR OF THREE KINGS

HOLLOW CROWN

A song about the reign of King Richard III, 1483 to 1485

YOU SEE THIS CROWN HOW IT DOES SHINE
A GOLDEN CROWN AND IT IS MINE
I WEAR IT FOR ENGLAND WHICH I HOLD DEAR
A CRY OF USURPER I DID HEAR

THIS HOLLOW CROWN UPON MY HEAD
THEY SAY MY BROTHERS SONS ARE DEAD
WHISPERS AT COURT BEHIND MY THRONE
IN MY REIGN SEEDS OF DOUBT ARE SOWN

YOU SEE THIS BODY IS IT TRULY MINE
MY BACK IS BENT LIKE A TWISTED VINE
YOU SPEAK OF EVIL TO TARNISH MY NAME
FOR THE DEATH OF HASTINGS I AM TO BLAME

THIS HOLLOW CROWN UPON MY HEAD
AND NOW MY YOUNGEST SON IS DEAD
MY GRIEF AT COURT UPON MY THRONE
THE QUEEN AND I FEEL SO ALONE

YOU SEE THIS SWORD IN MY HAND
AGAINST TUDOR I DEFEND THIS LAND
OF NEWS FROM FRANCE I WAIT TO HEAR
WITHIN MY ARMOUR I HIDE MY FEAR

THIS HOLLOW CROWN UPON MY HEAD
THEY SAY QUEEN ANNE WILL SOON BE DEAD
THE SKY IS DARK THOUGH IT IS DAY
WITH MY BOOK OF HOURS I DO PRAY

REQUIEM

A song about Margaret of Burgundy after the death of her brother Richard.

HER HEART WAS FULL OF SORROW
THE NEWS SOMEWHAT DELAYED
HER YOUNGER BROTHER RICHARD
IN BATTLE HE WAS BETRAYED

A REQUIEM MASS FOR RICHARD
SHE HAD TO PREPARE
HER HEART WAS FULL OF SORROW
ANGER AND DEEP DESPAIR

A USURPER HENRY TUDOR
HOW SHE WOULD HATE THAT NAME
DID STEAL THE CROWN OF ENGLAND
HER BROTHER CRUELY SLAIN

A REQUIEM MASS FOR RICHARD
SHE HAD TO PREPARE
HER HEART WAS FULL OF ANGER
MARGARET'S DEEP DESPAIR

A GREYFRIARS CHURCH IN MECHELEN
IN THE CHOIR HER BODY TO REST
FOR IN HER WILL WAS WRITTEN
THIS BURIAL REQUEST

AMBION HILL

A song about a ghostly knight on Ambion Hill.

I SAW A KNIGHT UP ON AMBION HILL
HIS ARMOUR DID SHINE IN THE SUN
HE WORE A SURCOAT OF MURRAY AND BLUE
IT FELT LIKE A DREAM HAD BEGUN

HE BECKONED ME TO FOLLOW HIM
I BLINKED AND HE WAS GONE
A GHOST I THINK I HAD SEEN
BUT YOU SAY I MUST BE WRONG

I HEARD A VOICE UP ON AMBION HILL
HE SAID THE BATTLE WASN'T HERE
I LOOKED AROUND I WAS QUITE ALONE
BUT THE VOICE IT WAS QUITE NEAR

HE TOLD ME TO TURN AROUND
I TURNED TO WALK THAT WAY
A GHOSTLY VOICE I THINK I HEARD
ARE YOU SURE I HEAR YOU SAY

Richard III

Listen and be Enthralled
I've been listening to the music of the Legendary Ten Seconds since I've discovered them a few months ago and I'm totally thrilled that the newest gem of this trilogy is now out as a CD. Richard III is filled with new songs - some have a faster pace while others have a beautiful melody and all are performed with great professionalism. The first two songs have a swinging, dynamic rhythm. "Written At Risisng" has sound effects, water running - the instrumentation gives it a beautiful medieval feeling with a modern touch. "Act III, Scene 4" impresses with its beautiful harmony. "The Year of 3 Kings" and "Hollow Crown" are nice swinging songs. They are accompanied with diverse instruments, but the acoustic guitar and a lively flute stand out nicely as does an electronic keyboard. "Remember my Name" again it's filled with beautiful harmonies that really strike a cord inside. "Lord Lovell's Lament" is a slow song that stands in its sweet presentation. "Requiem Mass For Richard" tells the story of his sister Margaret after getting the news of her last brother's death. It's heartfelt song with some definite rock elements. The song called "Royal Title" is about Sir George Buck finding Titulus Regius and the truth that deserves to be know! The sound of a beautiful acoustic guitar accompanies the song of "Ambion Hill" The last song of the CD is called "How Do You Rebury A King" and it just rounds out the whole album. Ian Churchward and the musicians of the Legendary Ten Seconds have created an astonishing set of thrilling, thoughtful, sometimes soothing and often lively songs that I wouldn't want to miss anymore. You won't be disappointed when checking out their work.

A Wonderful Ricardian Album
The Legendary Ten Seconds bring medieval history to life through "Richard III." This new album is a fantastic follow up to their recent "Loyaulté Me Lie" and "Tant le Desiree" albums (also focused on medieval England and the time of King Richard III). Many of these new songs have the feel of a medieval ballad blended with the modernisation of a "folk rock" beat. It is difficult to choose, but I think my two favorites are "The Year of Three Kings" with its great history and "Hollow Crown" with its unique sound and very personalized viewpoint. I confess to being a Ricardian (former Chair of the American Branch of the Richard III Society, Inc), with a love for the late medieval period. This is a wonderful Ricardian album. Feast on the great music and learn some history at the same time.

Richard III
This was the first album I purchased from The Legendary Ten Seconds. I have enjoyed the music immensely. I thoroughly enjoy the history of Richard III through the music. Medieval music with the touch of modern really brings an enjoyment I haven’t seen in a long time. I look forward to listening to the other albums. I’m excited to see what else is out there.
