ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Blackberry Way Records is proud to announce the addition of THE LITTER to our roster with the new album: “FUTURE OF THE PAST” To be released September 2019.
In the late 1960’s THE LITTER followed up their punk/garage classic hit ACTION WOMAN with the LP's DISTORTIONS, $100 FINE and EMERGE. EMERGE released on ABC’s Probe label, was awarded gold record status selling over 500,000 albums around the world. Along with DISTORTIONS, EMERGE has remained one of the most respected and collectible records from the psychedelic era. The Litter toured the nation playing shows with Led Zeppelin, The Who, Jethro Tull and Cream to name a few.
The appropriately titled “Future Of The Past” is an out of the box vision of where rock was and should be going. Original member Tom Murray enlisted the help of some talented and enthusiastic young players, as well as original Litter guitarist Zippy Caplan, Larry Wiegand of Crow and original guitarist of The Revolution, Dez Dickerson, to add their magic to the recording. The Litter's Second Coming!
The Litter was once one of the most popular & influential bands in Minnesota music history whom had release 3 full length albums and 5 singles from 1967-69. Now 50 years later their Seconding Coming has been release with their first new recording on the well entitled album "future Of The Past" !
The Litter were Psychedelic Punkers based in Minneapolis. "Indeed , among the best of the genre from anywhere in the USA" states Hugh Maclean & Vernon Joynson, in their book "An American Rock History : Part 5; The Midwest; Minnesota & Wisconsin" and continued " "In particular , are strongly recommended". In Tom Tourville's book, "Minnesota Rocked" Tom writes "Pure 60's Punk Classics. This author feels that the Litter Featured the Finest & Hottest guitarist in Minnesota Rock History, Present or Past!"....Tom 'Zippy' Kaplan"
Tom Murray, the bands original drummer, has brought The Litter back for it's Second Coming including it's great lead guitarist Zippy Kaplan. Tom also brings into the Litter fold, Ronnie Long (Katz Band), Larry Weigand (From the legendary band, Crow), Bernie Bomberg (the Surf Dogs) , Dez Dickerson (Prince's Revolution) , Danny Masters Gorklo (Electric Playground), Scott Uhl (Spiral Cell) , Greg Burgess (Allegaeon) , Paul Haugen (Electric Playground) Phyllis Wright, Nick Tengler , Anne Freeman, Jon Romereo, Liz Lindsay & Janet Deane.
Their are 10 new songs , most written by Murray & Deane, Bomberg & Caplan round of the writing here and one cover on Buffalo Springfield classic "For What's It's Worth"
The album opens with the Track I've been noting already in this review, "Second Coming" . This a superb and well title track. Just what was I expecting what the band would dio very, very, very, well . It Kicks! Also any song I listen and it gives me ideas for my own work is hitting on all cylinders.
The second track "Stay With Me Baby" a power rock ballad that could have been a big hit single in the '60-'70.'s. Stay With Me Baby is now running through my head!
Third track is a bow to our Native America history called "Crazy Horse Legend" the Lakota chief/shaman (Oglala Sioux) and features native flute by Jon Romero & Liz Lindsay on native jingles with Tom Murray playing native drums and Scott Uhl was on lead guitar on this track. A Great example of music I call "Inyan" , a merger of Rock and Native American musical traditions and instruments. So Cool!! PS I have learn that this song will be the first single '45' from the album and with a non-album B-side treat continuing the Native American theme.
The forth track is the cover of the song the ended the Smother Brothers Show and lead to the Glen Campbell Show, "For What It's Worth" Stills & Young would be proud!
Next is the song "It's Not" or "ITSNOT" as shown on the album has Bomberg joining in a writing with Murray& Deane. Love the smart lyrical twist. Love it's not!
This following song is among my favorites ! This is a true Psychedelic throwback. with it's subject matter, tempo variations and word play! Just fantastic.
The Mummy's Revenge is vintage Zippy , an instrumental in the title and performance and he co-writes this piece with Bomberg. Looks like I have another song for my Halloween show! Zippy is a fan of old classic horror films and has an album out that is dedication to those films including some adventure & sci -fi films! Love the Growl on this song! :)
"You Can't Feel Love" another great rock ballad . I need to add here the Ronnie Long is the lead vocalist for the band and is entirely up to the task handling a wide range vocal performances. He was the right pick to take the vocal leads and this work!
The next track is "Shake Up" is straight up rock your are sure to enjoy.
"The Miracle" a satire of sorts deliberately uneven with effects and added vocalizations that I have thought of using if I ever got record again. Includes a nod to the song by NAPOLEON XIV , "They're Coming To Take Me Away" 1966
The final track "Twist & Twirl" also called "Just Believe" brings Dez Dickerson guitar into play and is a great closing piece to this brilliant album and this is the finest guitar work by Dez I have ever heard.
The core band is Tom Murray on drums and Larry Weigand holding down the base Bernie Bomberg was on rhythm guitar with the aforementioned Ronnie Long pulling down the vocals.

This is a great work pulled together by Tom Murray brings this classic work alive and hear the Litter again in their "Second Coming" in The Future of the Past!
