ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The London Welsh Rugby Club has a long and illustrious history, and its latest torchbearers – the club choir – are delighted to introduce its first ever compilation of favourite Welsh and international tracks.

Rugby and song have gone hand in hand at Old Deer Park since the London Welsh RFC’s inception in 1885. The club has contributed many players to the Welsh national team, including names such as JPR Williams, Gerald Davies, Mervyn Davies, John Taylor and, of course, Wales and British and Irish Lions legend John Dawes.

Under Dawes’ presidency, and with Michael Wyn Jones as musical director, the London Welsh Rugby Club Choir has, since its formation in 2003, brought its unique sound to sell out audiences across the UK, Europe, Asia and Australasia. Initially formed to tour New Zealand in support of the 2005 British and Irish Lions, the choir has since established itself both at home and abroad. The repertoire has been expanded, a new style of singing introduced and innovations developed wherever possible.

With strong ties to both its Welsh roots and the exile community centred around the famous Old Deer Park, the 40-strong choir continues to spread its love of music to old and young alike, in a range of concert halls, cathedrals and less formal settings. The result is a choir singing with an infectious enthusiasm that is hard to resist.
