ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Milkman & Sons is a Brooklyn based band that pays homage to American Roots music of the past and specializes in Traditional Blues and Prohibition Jazz. They are known for their ability to take audiences in a musical time machine by playing the music of such varied notables as Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Django Reinhardt, Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Fats Waller, Hoagy Carmichael and Little Walter as well as original music written in a similar style.

While the band is always fronted by singer/songwriter, harmonica player and guitarist, Marcus (The Milkman) Milius, he is accompanied by his ‘Sons’, a rotating cast of local musicians. The band usually performs as a trio but can expand to a sextet including drums or even adding horns. They developed their craft playing up to six nights a week at local bars, restaurants and events. Marcus has long backed up other musicians as a sideman, playing all over the US, Japan, Europe and Scandinavia. Now he’s ready to step out on his own.

This is the first time The Milkman & Sons have done a studio album, thanks to the assistance of producer/bassist Jeff Kerestes. Vocal, harmonica, guitar, bass and drum recording was all done live, in one day, in February 2018 at Atomic Sound in Redhook, Brooklyn. What you will hear is a more electric take on music of the past influenced by Tom Waits, Dr. John, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding and Hank Williams. In the tradition of break-up albums you will journey through songs of anger, confusion, regret, nostalgia, pain and finally hope.

"There's a Better Day"
All music and lyrics by Marcus Milius copyright 2019

There’s a better day
I hope and I pray
It’s coming my way

There’s a better day
It can’t be this gray
Day after day

I, I look to the sky
I try not to cry
And hold my head high, ‘cause

There’s a better day
That’s what I say
To drive these blues

There’s a better day
So I sing this little song
To help me carry on

There’s a better day
It can’t be that long
So I keep holding on

I, I’m standing in the rain
But still I don’t complain
I can take the pain, ‘cause

There’s a better day
I hope I’m not wrong
That’s what I’m counting on
