Album Notes
The Mill SA/SWISS Collab ist he product of a vibrant exchange of musical ideas between South African and Swiss musicians. This seemingly audacious pairing is a progressive charting of new musical conversations. Set in the backdrop of the lush savannah contrasted with Gregorian harmony. Sounds reminiscent of the Baptist church and Bra Joe at the stokvel; this multifaceted collaboration between the Swiss and South African musicians is set to break new grounds in the pairing of two distinct and yet seemingly dissimilar worlds .The Mill’s debut album swings wherever the wind blows yet it is firmly rooted in the tradition in ist sound. A mish mash of cacophonous and lush horn arrangements, soulful grooves tinkling on piano and razor-sharp guitar transmutations. These sounds blend into a Mbaqangaesque -Berne- Third Stream-Gospel style which expresses the moments of the now.
On this current excursion Mandla Mlangeni (Standard Bank Young Artist Jazz19) curates The Mills first African inspired album When The Wind Blows. This offering was the result of a three date engagement in Joburg’s most happening live music venues. When The Wind Blows is the sonic manifestation of an artistic vision that aims to facilitate new artistic expression and cultural participation through music
